Along with the tournament, I thought that I should detail exactly how I prepared for this tournament. Sure, my plan wasn't the best and I probably should have practiced more, but I did place pretty high at the end of the event.
Wednesday, July 25th:
I buy
Wing Commander Arena at 4 in the morning. I sleep for 6 hours, then get up and play the game for a little under two hours with
K4rn4ge earning 4 of the achievements, but I have to stop so I can catch the first episode of
Kill Point on Spike TV. I missed it the first time it was on. Thank god for repeats!
Thursday, July 26th:
I play WCA for two more hours, having too much code to write and too many personal things going on. This really is the first time I attempt to get to know the game better. At first, I think this game is horrible, but the more I play it the better it gets. Kind of one of those games that starts off slow then ends in a positive note. I earned a single achievement, at least.
Friday, July 27th:
Ok, time to get serious. I earn five of the harder achievements all in a row, the hardest being that horrible ring game. In total I play for about 6 hours. I get yelled at by at least 10 different people today because I "cheated and killed them too fast," but for the most part people were nice to each other.
Saturday, July 28th:
Someone out there will probably kill me when I say this, but I didn't play WCA at all today. I really wanted to though.
Sunday, July 29th:
I decided I had better start earning some of the harder ships that I don't have yet or I will be really screwed. I unlocked quite a few today, most noticeably the Paktahn Mauler. That ships rips into anything in its path! I freak out out quite a few people by de-cloaking right in front of them and firing torpedoes. Cheap, yes, but effective.
Monday, July 30th:
The day of the event! Too bad I only had 2 hours of sleep. I knew I shouldn't have stayed up coding. Too bad, because I start playing at 2pm and up to the event, which is 7 hours. By using the Darket Raptor and the Dralthi Rhino I earn my 1000 kills online. One more achievement to go! However, I can't seem to unlock the top Terran ship and I figure that it won't matter. Whoops.
The Event:
The event started out around 9pm my time with a lack of one competitor (no doubt
legal troubles), making the first two rounds 15-player FFA matches to 25 frags. The first round started and unfortunately I wasn't flying the right ship! After a kill or two I finally get killed and switch to the ship that I stick with the rest of the tournament I was involved with: The Dralthi Rhino. The first two rounds went pretty fast and I managed to pull out a 2nd and 3rd place victory, securing my place in the next 8 player rounds.

First Game, Round 1:
SuperDunners - 25 / 10
jon chaos - 22 / 10
UBETARUN - 15 / 11

First Game, Round 2:
SuperDunners - 25 / 13
Fried Karma - 18 / 10
jon chaos - 17 / 10
UBETARUN - 15 / 10
GODFREE - 13 / 13
Roncore - 13 / 12
Bandit LOAF - 11 / 11
DeaconBlade 360 - 10 / 8

Greendoggy - 6 / 7
Crecente - 1 / 3
JCalGC - 1 / 12
bullzeye critic - 1 / 10
Louie the Cat - 0 / 5
The second round is away! I do pretty bad since I didn't have that top-of-the-line Terran ship. I do, however, manage to tie for 4th place with 20 kills:

Second Game, Round 1:
SuperDunners - 25 / 22
Bandit LOAF - 24 / 20
Roncore - 22 / 18
Fried Karma - 20 / 16
jon chaos - 20 / 19
skittlesdfw - 18 / 20
UBETARUN - 15 / 18
GODFREE - 15 / 21
Greendoggy - 11 / 16
The next round I do pretty good, but miss the final four by a lousy 2 kills! Ouch. I didn't manage to grab the last scores because I accidentally hit the button before I took the picture. Damn!
The last game moved on without me, with Destructoid, PlanetXbox360, WCNews, and Xbox360Fanboy fighting over the right to play in the last game, where the winner would be chosen. All four of these sites had automatically won prizes for their communities by being one of the last four. Obviously, I don't have the scores for this round.
The two winners from this round were PlanetXbox360 and Xbox360Fanboy, with both of them going head-to-head for the big prize. After all was said and done, Xbox360Fanboy came out victorious, winning the big daddy of the 4 price packages.
Overall I was satisifed with my performance, coming out at 5th place out of 15 competitors. It is too bad that I didn't win any prizes for everyone here, but I gave it my best! If only I would have unlocked that A-17 Broadsword Behemoth...
