How do I play hard difficulty?

I've beat the game but I see no option for the second difficulty. I don't wanna wipe my level ups and I know you don't have to so how do I play it? please help!

go to new game in there it will say number two and number one you want number one for the hard and it will ask you if you want to keep all your skills so don't worry you keep eerything when you do hard.

Okay, I have beaten the game. When I go to the Main Menu, I press New Game, another screen pops up..."There is existing Save Data and it will be overwritten if you continue. Are you sure you want to lose your level progress? Yes, No." Can anyone explain this? There are no options for Number One or Number Two, and I definitely do not want to proceed further at the risk of losing my game data. Thanks in advance for any help!

Edit: I got to the Hard difficulty. For anyone else wondering how to get there...once you beat the game:
1. Go to the Main Menu,
2. Select New Game,
3. Select Yes to overwrite data and continue,
4. A screen will appear giving you the option to select Number 1 or Number 2 (obviously select #1),
5. Finally, another screen pops-up asking if you want to retain your present skills,
Make your decision and you start over on Hard difficulty at the beginning of the "Prelude" level.
