View Full Version : Arcade vs Pro vs Elite

I am going to buy another 360 within the next day or two. Here's my situation. I went down to K-Mart, the only place in town with consoles, and they were out of pros. I don't need an elite, because I already have a 120 gb hdd on my xbox. I didn't want to buy the arcade, because in my mind it just isn't as good.

I do, however, still have my 20 gb hdd sitting at home. If I were to buy an arcade and slap that hard drive on there, are there any problems I might have to put up with? I think I'd have to buy the high def cables, that's not a big deal as long as the quality will be the same.

I'm not buying an elite, but I threw the name in the thread title just to get some perspective on what's better, etc. What do you guys think.......will the arcade be worth it, or should I just go ahead and drive to Carson City and get a pro?

Thoughts?

Arcade and put the 20gb on there and buy yourself some cables. Unless you want 60gb with the pro..

So, aside from the cables (and I believe the disc tray is white), there will be no difference?

Nah, it's going into the living room for my roommates to use, and they both have their own profiles and will be buying DLC, etc. They play as much as I do, so the 2nd box will be nice. Plus, I figure when I move out sooner or later it'll be nice to have two. You never know when you're gonna get red ring syndrome.

EDIT: almost forgot to say....thanks man.

I had a regular XBOX that died. All I did was take my original 20 Gb HD and put it into an Arcade model. No problems at all.

In fact it ended up being better as the arcade model had HDMI output :)

If you already have an HD and don't need the extra space, then I don't really think a more expensive model is worth it.

Right on, I'm definitely gonna go the arcade route. Thanks for the info and opinions. Mods, you can lock if you wish.

Thank you.

I know I am late but the newer arcade units have 256mb memory built into the system.

When my MS refurbished console dies, which is coming up. I'm going to purchase an arcade and slap my 120GB HD on it. It's more logical then spending $119.99 to have MS fix my box. Plus it will have HDMI :)

Built in? Or does it come with a memory card or something? I just figured with the small amount of memory that came along with it, that they gave you a memory card or something.

I got mine about a year ago and it came with a memory card.

The memory card has been invaluable to me. I can transfer my profile to it an take it round to friends houses.

From an achievement point of view it's also extremely useful for certain games as you can backup a save game, you can then use the alternate save in situations where there are two achievements and its not possible to get both at the same time.

It's also incredibly useful for backing up games which have glitchy achievements. I recently used it in HAWX when it glitched and stopped giving them to me, so I went back to an earlier save rather than replay the whole game.

Very nice. I have been wanting a memory card, but don't want to spend the money on it. Now I'll have one.

Just one more question. I've never used an HDMI cord. I have an original Xbox 360 and I don't know if it even has an HDMI port, I've never cared to look.

If I did want to use the HDMI, would I still hook up everything the same? Do I still need the red-blue-green? Just curious. I don't plan on using the HDMI, unless it completely replaces the other cords, because this will be my secondary box.

The HDMI output is just an additional output socket and you can just use HDMI cables if yuo have an HDMI input in your TV.

However, you can still use the same cord you used previously as there is still a socket for it above the HDMI output.

As far as I remember, the console doesn't come with an HDMI cable anyway (you'd have to buy one), but the same cable you currently use with your old one.

What about the red and white audio? Does it transfer the audio, too? I feel like such a dumbass asking these questions. I do have an HDMI input on both of my TV's.

Don't worry about feeling a dumbass. These are things you only really learn about when you come to use them :)

HDMI does transfer audio too.

It also means you can go upto 1080p. I was using the component output on my previous XBOX and my TV didn't like displaying it at that resolution, there was some interference or something and I had to use 1080i.

Sweet, so instead of buying the ol' red-blue-green cables, I'll consider just getting the HDMI, depending on the price difference. I'm sure I'm gettin' this tomorrow.

Component for anything doesn't support 1080p. Also, use 720p. Not 1080i.

Yeah, I found that out when I first set it up. I thought it was a problem with my TV as it was displaying a picture in 1080p, but badly. I just assumed that because I could set my XBOX to 1080p then it would be fine. I read around and found as you said, it was the cable type I was using rather than my TV.

Why use 720p rather than 1080i though? Is that in general, or just if you're using a component cable?

I will try to look, but I am too impatient to go looking around at stores for a certain model. I am just too antsy to spend my money, get home, and hook it up. The word "jasper" had crossed my mind, though. I'll reread through that thread.

Find a jasper console and your chances will be greatly reduced that you'll be needing a new replacement console in a year or 2.

with the arcade and hdmi you can use the standard cable with the red white and yellow to output sound to any device and it just fits in alongside the hdmi cable, the cable that comes with the pro is too chunky to do this.

You can have them both in use as outputs in at the same time? Thanks. :)

I didn't realise this. I had been thinking of ways of connecting my XBOX to the stereo.

Yes you can. I have an elite hooked up with the hdmi and the vga cables for surround. All you have to do is take the bulky gray plastic piece off the vga cable. Works perfect for me!

I did that and am able to have the XBOX connected to the TV via HDMI and have it output to my stereo as well. :)

Although it causes the XBOX to do something odd. If I change the channel to normal TV then back again, when I switch back to the XBOX on its HDMI channel the XBOX restarts.

The same thing happens to me, but I would rather have my hdmi and surround sound, so it really doesn't bother me.
