I just figured this out. If you have a lead, you can just take the ball back to your base, next to one of your corners, and just sit there and wait. Noone from the other team will come to try and take the ball. I have tested this.

That's what I did. I would also just have one of my backs keep it and I would pass it from one back to the other from a 5-4-1 formation.
