Aegis Wing Boss Guide

Note: during boss battles, enemy ships and power-ups will not give you any points.
In multiplayer games the full point value of bosses will be awarded to all players.
Bosses only take damage when they are red. Once they turn white don't waste any specials
on them.
Level 1
This boss is particularly easy. He'll fire waves of five bullets at you which can be
easily avoided, EMP'd or deflected back with the shield power up. As with all bosses
he'll only take damage when he's red so don't waste any offensive power-ups
(rockets/lasers) on him when he's white.
After a while he'll settle down and four ships will approach. They will yield one
power-up (or replacement ship if you've got any particularly rubbish co-op partners).
Eventually he'll explode and you'll get a sweet 5000 points.
Level 3
Microsoft's interns got a little lazy with this one and so he's basically a rehash of
your boy from Level 1. This time though he's a bit more dangerous.
His first attack is a horizontal barrage of bullets whilst he sweeps up and down. Easily
avoided again using the tactics from the first level.
When the four ships approach he'll go invulnerable briefly but will then launch an angled
barrage of bullets up and down. Staying central will get you past this but remember to
take out the ships. The shield/EMP are useful here but if you have rockets let them off
when the ships are nearly on you and the boss has reverted to his red state.
This boss will disappear about halfway into the battle but returns at the end of the
level. Again another 5000 points is your reward for uppercutting this fella's head clean
off.
Level 5
Level 5's boss breaks the monotony with two varied attacks.
His first trick is spit out a bunch of meteors at you. These are annoying unless you've
got a laser. My advice is to get some shots off at him and then head down to the bottom
of the screen and move forward (about 80% of the way forward) in anticipation of his next
attack.
The next attack is sees him whip out a giant laser and sweep the screen with it. This
attack is good and bad news for you. The bad part is that it'll destroy you instantly if
you don't know what you're doing and will also destroy your whole team as well.
The good news though is that it destroys the meteors (thus releasing those sweet, sweet
power-ups) and also makes you look like a pro if you survive it and your team of co-op
suckers chow down on laser pie.
The laser comes in two flavours.
A horizontal sweep (from top to bottom) which is easily avoided by staying at the top or
bottom of the screen.
A rotating sweep, which is why you need to stay 80% of the way forward for it.
The boss telegraphs this for a second though so you shouldn't get caught out.
After the laser you get a few seconds to start laying into him. Hit him with everything
you've got before he attacks with the meteors. If you've got the laser power-up try to
shoot him just as he launches the meteors and you'll take most of them out.
10,000 points and one dead sucker are your reward for this one.
Level 6 (sub-boss)
Once you know the patterns this guy is a cinch to beat which makes this a welcome break
in between the insanity of this final level.
For three waves he'll either fire a barrage of bullets at you (deflect/avoid/EMP as
appropriate whilst returning fire) or will charge around the outside perimeter of the
screen (just stay in the middle). He will be invulnerable between waves so be careful
with your lasers/rockets.
After three attacks he'll simply charge forward. Again, look like a pro by moving down
or up and watch your team-mates take it in the gob (or warn them if you're feeling
charitable).
After the charge attack you'll face twelve cannon fodder ships. Take these out for
power-ups or replacement ships.
On insane difficulty this can take a while. Your biggest danger is losing concentration
from boredom so stay alert and await the 15,000 points you're about to bank.
Level 6 (final boss)
Aegis Wing's final boss can be something of annoyance if you don't know what you are
doing but he's fairly easy to take down with a bit of advanced knowledge.
He has three main attacks which come at you randomly. Note: he'll be vulnerable the
whole time so try to capitalise on that.
The first is a barrage of bullets. They will spread across the entire screen but are
fairly easy to navigate through. Joining up here would be a mistake though. A shield is
very handy here especially if you push forward to maximise reflected damage.
The second attack sees him fling out two rings. These will kill you instantly unless you
are directly in front of him or at the top or bottom of the screen. It is easy to be
caught out here so play it safe and try to stay in front of him as much as possible.
The third attack is his prog rock laser show. Streams of white lines will appear on the
playing area. Make sure you are not touching them because in a second they will be
followed red lasers which will pimp your ride right into next week.
After three attacks he'll turn white and you'll be attacked by ships. Destroy these for
tasty power-ups and await the next wave of main attacks.
After sufficient damage he'll panic like a little girl and will send out a full-screen
barrage of bullets. There will always be a gap between the bullets so stay safe whilst
dishing out return fire until he's dead like the rest of his alien buddies.
20,000 points and presumably a ticker-tape parade await you and your victorious squad.
Did you make the 185,000?
