i wouldnt waste money buying another 360 for a bigger hard drive upgrade....plus, i can always mod my internal 360 to have a 60 gig laptop HDD and combine that with my 360 HDD for 80 gigs.

I knew that a 100GB hard drive was coming, but for the same price? Come on now that's just not fair. They better let me exchange mine  .

i heard about this ages ago
i would say its a waste of money, you would lose your achievements etc. its pointless 20gb is bigger enough

When I got my 20GB HDD, it only had 11GB free... :?
MmM achievements good
March 19th, 2006, 03:33 PM
you can delete all the stuff on it like gamerpics and themes you dont want and those videos that came with it

you can say it's pointless now, but think a few years down the line, arcade games (who knows what size they might get upto!), demos, add-ons for games, 20gb doesn't go that far.
I also knew that this was coming out even before the 360 was about, and i think after awhile it will be needed for most heavy gamers, who don't wanna risk doing the modding stuff.
And also i don't think you would lose your gamescore, i reckon thats saved with your gametag, so it will remember your score when you just retrive it on the new HDD.

you can talk about "modding" you 360 with an extra internal notebook drive but that wont get you the space you need WHERE you need it. i could throw one of my 250gb sata drives in there and all i would have is extra storage for music and pics. why would you need that if youre streaming it all from your pc?
liek someone else said, when it comes to downloading full games in the future 10-12 gbs isnt nearly enough. i have almost a terabyte in my pc and that will probably only last me another year with all the video i have.
point is, M$ would come off really bad with their fans if they did something like this so soon. its bad enough to only have a 20 gb hdd, but to charge $100 for one? thats ridiculous. you can get 300gb hdds for 120$. its not even a great drive! its a slow 5300rpm notebook drive. why not keep the same hdd size(3.5") as the original xbox and then you have a cheaper hdd to use and it would be at least 7200rpm.
sorry to rant but this subject drives me nuts.

Here is a much easier way to get HDD space ANY size you want.

This pwns! You all will be thanking me of my uber l337-ness when you runout of your lame 20G HDDs and need bigger ones. MUAHAHA!
Sorry, Monsters, for my arrogance. Please don't schmite me!

Sorry to just repeat what everyone else is saying but I dont trust myself to mod. I agree that this 20gig is not nearly enough. And I had to reply to get my 2 cents in on how  it makes me that they are planning on doing this. Not only is this too soon but it sucks really really bad if you buy one sure you can bring you gamerscore and tag with you but you loose all your saves on the games that you wanted to come back to to finish off achievements.

Also, if you read the article, it also states below that it is UNTRUE and NOT verified by a Microsoft rep. In short, I will believe it when I see it myself.

that wont work, people have tried it. the xbox hdd has sw/fw on it that makes it work with the 360. believe me, if it was as easy as buying a bigger 2.5" drive i would have upgraded to a 160gb 7200rpm hdd.

March 20th, 2006, 04:13 PM
so you cant just swap the hdd for a bigger one?? i thought your could unbutton the hdd and swap out the internal drive for another larger memory one.....
NamelessForever
March 20th, 2006, 04:43 PM
Yes, you can swap the HDD out for a bigger one. It just has to be able to fit. You can't just take any HDD and replace the 20GB one. It will have to be MS specific. Kind of like how you couldn't take any HDD and hook it up to the PS2. It had to be that one particular HDD.

i got 13gb and deleting the stuff wont make a difference
nomadnomad7
March 20th, 2006, 11:24 PM
no it wont work, its not a matter of making it fit, and 2.5" notebook drive will fit, theyre all gonna be the same formfactor. sure the replacement drive will look the same and connect just fine but the hdd's you get from microsoft have data on them that you cant copy, and THAT is why M$ sucks so bad. as soon as someone finds a way to flash that data onto a similar drive and have everything come out perfect and post a tutorial for it, ill be all over it.

You are correct. That's what I was trying to say, but I couldn't figure out how to put it. That's why I threw the PS2 HDD statement in there. SOny had special software on the drive so that you couldn't just use any other drive. MS is the same way.

Yeah, for all the B/C crap and everything. So, even if they come out with a 100gb HDD, you will actually only have a 93gb HDD.

Remember Moores law? Thats how they can chrarge the same price. It will also probably go up any way. With any luck we will see these sold seperatly or on ebay.

Not taking any chances. The second this is confirmed as true i'm goin to my local game store and if they've got new premiums with 100gb HDDs, i'm buying one.
Gonna take that isht home, get me a 360 sata adapter and copy all my games, saves and media to the 100gb then return the console the next day. Nothing the store can say about it and i get me a free 100gb.
You guys who're saying 20gbs isn't enough are right. The xbox lasted 4-5 years ONLY cos it had a 20gb HDD but no way to download MS media content to it so that 20gbs was primarily used for gamesaves and the odd CD or 5 of music. Now the XBL Marketplace is providing demos and movies, that 20gbs is gonna fill up quick. I can't even imagine a 100gb HD lasting 5 years with the amount of people who save their favourite demos and movies.
My advice? If this is true and you've got the cash, buy a premium and swap the HDD out.

my xbox 360 broke after i had it and i recovered my gamertag on my new one i got so if they do release a new harddrive you dont have to worry about your acheivments going there all stored on microsoft servers

I just got off the phone with MS custserv to sort out an issue with XBL. I asked them when the wireless headset is coming out and they mentioned soon.
I asked them what else is coming out and guess what the guy said.
"XBL Vision camera in 1 month, 100gb HDD and mem unit in a month or so, HD-DVD drive at the same time as the october dashboard update and a bunch of other stuff"
I called back 5 mins later and spoke to another rep. I asked him about a 100gb HDD in passing and he told me it would be out before october.
If you don't have a 360 sata adapter, now'd be a good time to pick one up. They're definitely releasing a 100gb HDD.

20GB was a terrible launch idea. Mine was gone in less than 24 hours. Especially 4 years down the line when the console is at the end of its life, there's no way 20g will even come close to accomadating peoples' needs.

mine had about 13gb when I got mine

June 23rd, 2006, 02:59 AM
mine's down to 6 gigs, cuz of all the demos.....why didn't they do what Sony did and release a 60gb drive outta the box?
oh wait.....if they did that, the system might cost as much as a PS3
nirvana4life
June 23rd, 2006, 06:19 AM
The ps3 is costing $600 because of the blue- ray, not the hard drive.
Tvols1480
June 23rd, 2006, 01:29 PM
True, but the hard drive doesn't help the costs. How much do you guys think the 100GB HDD will cost?
MilkRevolution4
June 23rd, 2006, 02:27 PM
this will take a while but copy all of your stuff to a memory card and then transfer it to the hdd. And the 20 gig wont fill up quick cause when you are done with demos delete them. Done with the game, delete it. Done with the trailer, delete it. THINK GUYS!!!

All I have to say is would be a huge rip on all of us loyal hardcore 360 owners if MS came out with a 100gb drive now. It would be an even bigger rip if they started putting on all new 360's and still charged the same price that we paid. That would suck big time. But I guess that's one of the problems with buying a new piece of hardware as soon as it comes out and not waiting. But then again, waiting would not make us hardcore 360 gamers.
All I know is that I will a lot of respect for MS if they pull that crap. I really hope they have some kind of buy-back program or something like that. We send them our 20gb drives and they send us the new 100gb drives. All we pay is shipping or something..
