Knockout King - Step by Step Guide

I sent an e-mail to Blitz Games (the company that developed Big Bumpin') asking how to unlock the Knockout King Achievement. The full text of their reply appears below (typos and all). I haven't tried this out yet, but as soon as I get confirmation I'll post on this thread. If anyone else gets it to work please do the same.

Hi ---,

Here's a step by step guide on how to complete the Big Bumpin' achievement. It has to be done in single player mode (will not unlock in multiplayer) and this is the easiest way to do it:
Single Player mode

- Highlight "Ice Box Last Man Standing" and press X to "Have it your way" with custom settings

- Use these settings: AI Setting: Easy, Pickups: Off, Health: 100, Hazards: Off

- Start the game

- Keep circling around (and boosting) to avoid the AI cars

- Let the AI cars bump each other and wear their health down

- Whenever an AI car is nearly dead, boost into them from behind for to hit their weak spot for massive damage and kill them

- Note: the kill is only counted if this last impact is what kills the AI car. If they bounce of another car or wall and that impact kills them, it won't count as a kill in your favour.

- Keep repeating this until you have racked up 100 kills

- Note: as long as your profile is saved after each round, you can do this over multiple sessions.

- The achievement will unlock

I got an e-mail from them Friday 1-12 as well. Maybe that's when they got their act together? Either way, this achievement sounds like a nightmare. I am retiring this game (for real this time).

I can get about 1-2 knockouts (sometimes 3 if I'm lucky) a minute using their method.

Just go to a corner, turn around and boost past them. They'll clutter up and hit the walls or hit each other. Played for about 40 minutes and probably got 50+ knockouts. I would go for the 100 but I have to work in the morning.

It took me about 2 and a half hours to do this. What I did was dodge the other cars at first, then boost into them when they are all together. Do a very small circle and they will follow you around and around. When you are ready boost forward and slam into the guy in front of you. When there is one left and they won't stop following you, just come to a complete stop and many times they will also stop and then back up and leaving you with an opening to hit them.

You don't have to be the winner of the match to get the achievement.

Just go around in circles, boosting out of corners. They should all go down equally, but once one of them is nearly dead.. come to complete stop. Let them hit you and they will back off and you can boost in to their backs. If they're below one circle of health, it should always knock them out.

Ok, I have to be doing something wrong.

I've been doing this for well over 5 hours.. I make a match on easy with 100 health and no hazards or power-ups. I know for a fact I've accumulated well over 100 'kills.' Do these have to be performed from behind to count? Do you have to use the boost when getting the 'kill' off to count?

There has to be something wrong, because I get 2 knockouts a match, sometimes 3 and I've been at this for hooours.

I too received that step-by-step guide from Blitz last week and have been at it a few days, averaging around 5 - 6 hours with no achievement unlocking. I also gave it a go today for about 8 - 9 hours and still nothing. I play a single player game, (have it your way) with no hazards, no pick-ups, 100 health, easy AI (just like is explained). I use the 'replay game' everytime and see that it says profile save successful everytime.

I'm sure I've played well over 500 last man standing matches in the ice box and I'm ready to toss my controller through my tv. I'm great at avoiding the cars until they are down to 1 bubble and usually get 1 or 2 in the center of the ice box, sometimes all 3. I've hit them in the rear, in the front...I've hit them with my cars rear and front. I've hit them boosting and not boosting. I just don't know why it is not unlocking. I'm going insane after todays marathon session and just don't know what to do.

Here are some of the stuff I'm wondering:

Is there a software coding typo the game has and I need to get 1000 not 100?

Is it possible that I need to get 100 online to go with the ones I've already gotten offline?

Do I have to make sure I do this in one session and never return to the menu?

Possibly something wrong with my profile not working for this game?

Possibly a bad patch of games that don't unlock this achievement?

As you can see I'm going crazy trying to figure out why this isn't unlocking. Thanks for any ideas.

Hmm the only thing I can think of is I wasn't online when I got the achievement. Maybe try not connecting to xbox live and see what happens.

I know for a fact, I only played at the most 150 games to get it.

I used the same method and worked at it for about 3 hours. I completed around 125 games averages one KO a game and nothing unlocked for me.

After checking the MGC it is about half and half for people who have unlocked them completely offline and those who have done it online.

Ok, I don't know if that is the trick, but I finally got it after only about 20-30 games played while disconnected to Xbox Live. I've player 100's and 100's of games while connected and all I did was disconnect the wireless adapter for a few games. I don't know if its a bug or not, but I hope this works for others. I was on my last nerve trying to get it to unlock and was willing to try anything. Don't know why, but it worked for me.

Still haven't hit it here. I even tried examining the profile to see if I could figure out if I was anywhere even close to 100, but I couldn't find where that number might be stored.

Tried pulling out the network cord, and it didn't help. It's the only achievement I have left in the whole trio of games! Gah!

Got it. Took me appx 3 hours, but I was randomly falling asleep in that time so probably 2 hours of "concentrated" Bumpin'.

Here's a small list of things that people are claiming to be true that I can dispel right now:

-You have to be offline to do it:
FALSE. Check my achievements (plus a few other people's), I have the date stamp, so I obviously did it while connected to live.

-You need to win the match.
FALSE. I lost the match, and the achievement unlocked.

-The achievement only unlocks in a certain menu.
FALSE. It unlocked the exact second I bumped someone to death.

-You need to pick "Go to main menu" after each round and re-do the whole setup.
FALSE. I picked "Replay" every single time.

-You need to play as a specific character.
FALSE. Anyone who knows anything about the way games are written can tell you that they would have had to specifically code this, and if that was the case, they would have specified in the email. I played as the King (the default character) every time, but I'm certain it won't matter.

-General crazy conspiracy theories (you can't have an ethernet cable plugged in, you can't have a wireless controller, you can't have brown hair, you can't live in a state begining with the letter "N")
FALSE. Christ people, you just need to bump 100 things to death.

The only possible theory I can think of is this: If they bump you, and they die, you do not get the kill. I counted each any every time I was sure it was a "ME AND THEM COLLIDE AND NOTHING ELSE" scenario, and I got the achievement at my 145th kill. There were quite a few times when I had 2 dots of life left and they had none, so I let them ram me. I'm pretty sure when THEY hit YOU and THEY die, you don't get the kill, THEY get a suicide. Only thing I can think of as to why it's taking some people like 10 hours to get this, perhaps they're doing the method where you get them to chase you and slam on the breaks.

Hope this helped someone. Now I just need to find a buddy for my remaining 3 'cheeves and I'll have 200 on this game.

Better still, do we know if this can be done in local multiplayer (not Xbox Live) with a few extra controllers, so the knockouts can be set up without it degrading into a 3-on-1 game of follow the leader every time?

Do the kills have to come from behind? I'de say no, I hit them everywhere and got the achievement.

Do you have to boost? Probably not, but I would anyway, just incase.. plus it makes it easier.

Can it be done in local multiplayer? No idea, give it a shot and let us know =P

I'm starting to think it has to be done all in one session. I've been forcing myself to play an hour a night. A match, including load time, runs just under 2 minutes. I figure at worst I'm getting a kill every three rounds (hard to be too confident when there's no confirmation -- probably the most frustrating thing about this achievement is you have no way to know with just how many kills it has credited you), so that's 10 kills per night. Going at this 6 days a week for two weeks, I should have over 100 by now.

I am backing out to the main menu after every match I get a known kill in, and I see 'profile saved successfully' in tiny letters on the bottom of my screen.

Maybe the people that cant get it to unlock arent backing out and saving every time??? I wont know for sure for a few days until I get at least 100.

I don't think so. When I hit "Replay", I also see "Profile saved successfully" at the bottom of the screen. Also, in Systematic's post on the previous page where he described earning the achievement: -You need to pick "Go to main menu" after each round and re-do the whole setup.

Well, I decided to follow the instructions exactly, and started over counting. I was very picky about what I considered counting as a "Knockout", under the hopes that by the time I counted 100, the game would've counted at least that.

I hit 100 tonight, by my count. Still no achievement.

yep, I quit playing this. I love completing games... but not like this.. I would rather play rb6, or cod3 now that the ranked matches online are fixed.

cyber, did you try using a custom character? maybe its not really saving to profile unless you make a custom character and use it? Im in the same boat as you are, playing tons of hours worth and still no achievement. Im all bumped out, I cant take this game anymore yet I want that damn achievement. It must be glitched somehow. I posted this on the official xbox forums but thought I would post it here as well - keep in mind this is just a thought (I do not have this achievement nor have I gotten 100 total knockouts and/or any of the criteria I am suggesting below).

Awarded when the winning total of Knockouts (counting both online and offline) reaches 100.

It sounds like you need to finish 100 matches with the most knockouts - not get a total of 100 knockouts. Otherwise wouldn't it just say awarded when total knockouts reaches 100? Perhpas that is why some people are not getting this achievement as they are not winning 100 matches with the most knockouts?

EDIT: Reading the achievement again I am also thinking that maybe you need to win 100 matches with the final (winning) knockout?

i have deffenitly gotten 100 knockouts as the winning knockout and 100 wins with the most knockouts per round. That video I posted was mearly a small fraction of my game time (video took about 2 hours of play when I have been at it for over 15 hours of play time now)

I have not tried scoring 100 knockouts online (no1 seems to be online), but Other people said they got it without playing online

I have gotten at leat 1,000 knockouts. Using the blitz games way and every other way. This really needs to be patched or something. Blitz please give us all the info.

I'm starting to think that you have to get more knockouts than any of the computers 100 times total as well. I've been playing for quite a while too and know for a fact that I have at least 200 knockouts because I've been keeping some what of a tally. The way they word the achievement kind of hints at this idea by stating "awarded when the WINNING total knockouts counting both online and offline reaches 100." I don't have this frustrating achievement either but I think if you play a round and manage to knock out all three or at least two then you've done 1/100 games because you knocked out more players than anyone else has.

I have a custom character, but I rarely use it. I know many of the other achievements, I earned without using it.

I'm thinking there's either a glitch, or there's something we're not doing properly that means the knockouts we think we're getting don't really count.

If it's the former, what are the chances we'll see a patch for a $4 game? Probably slim to nil.

If it's the latter, it underscores my biggest problem with this achievement -- there's no feedback to show that you did it right, that you've made any progress.

Speaking of which, I only skimmed through the video, but I saw a lot of instances where the knockouts probably wouldn't count. The "instructions" say to boost into them from behind, not stop and let a mostly dead player kill themselves by hitting you. Highly irritating, I know, as I've had more than one thwarted (possibly -- again, hard to tell if it counts or not) by a last-second turn by the computer causing me to hit their side, or by a seemingly suicidal (or just kill stealing (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20070212)) computer crashing into me (or the wall) when they have no health.

I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've done tallies to a hundred for kills, wins, wins with most knockouts, and kills from the back and still get the achievement to unlock. Just curious, how many people in this forum who have played the game for 8+ hours have eventually got the achievement to unlock because I'm starting to get a little frustrated with this game?

I actually got it yesterday. I think I played lastman standing a total of 5 - 6 hours and probably had betwen 250 - 300 total kills.

I could never figue out any real pattern as to what the game counts as a knockout (it's obviously not just a kill).

What I can say is that in my last game where I got the achievement I took let the AI cars do damage to each other while I ran around in a circle. When the AI damage was low enough I boosted into the back car (hitting it around the quarter panel) and took that out. I did the same for the second car. For the last car I actually boosted in reverse while the other car drove at me (towards my rear). We both got taken out, I got the win and the achievement unlocked as soon as I took out that last car.

I got this yesterday after reading everything I could find here and on xbox.com. Just need mine and hat trick now. There is no way to know how many kills you have.

Um, holy freaking crap! I just got it.

Here is what I did:

1) After EACH GAME, knockout or not, I hit 'Return to Single Player Menu' to see the profile saved.

2) Reloaded the game

3) Followed the instructions in the guide EXACTLY

4) Stayed signed into Xbox Live! the whole time

5) Played 3 different sessions:

Session 1: About 40 Gauranted kills
Session 2: About 100 Gauranteed kills
Session 3: About 30 Gauranteed kills

* It really doesnt take that long - maybe 2 hours - its just the game gets so sucky after a while you can't stand playing it, I had to put it down for like 2 months! *
