I found a glitch, one that forces you to restart the level.
When you are battling the giant green robot in Level 3-3 (picks you up, holds you up to the thrusters, incinerates you, repeat), I continuously shot at the head rather than the guns, thrusters or bomb shuts, and the head eventually disappeared. When the first life meter disappears and all you have to do is shoot at the head, there was nothing for me to shoot, as the head had disappeared; it was just the gray track that the head was on.
I have yet to see if this will repeat itself, frankly because I don't want to test the glitch. However, if you're coming upon this level, make sure to leave the head alone and destroy everything else until you are forced to shoot at the head.
