Driving school? We just get lessons over here. Then take a therory exam, then an actual test. We have to be 17 though, unlike you guys at 16 ¬¬. Having said that though, you pretty much all drive automatics. They suck in all honesty. Manuals are way more fun to drive.

I agree, although I haven't taken anything driving-related, I like manuals a lot more.

It is always more dangerous, though, driving a stickshift because when starting out, you have to concentrate on changing gears, which takes away from road awareness.

Vey true. Automatics are just boring to drive as its just put on the pedal and brake all the time. Plus acceleration on Mauals is far better 8)

Especially when you've got 260 Horsepower, twin turbo.

Right, I never took any driver's ed course. I just showed up when I turned 15, took a test on a computer, and they handed me a driver's permit. On June 19, 2007,(not my birthday, but soon after) I'm going to go in and do the driving test. Then I'll have a lisence.

I took DE last year and it was OK. The thing that sucks is 25hr. in the car with your parents. After you get your license, wow, it is so much fun.

What kind of automatics have you driven so far? I got my license driving a manual, had a manual for half a year after that, switched to automatic and never went back. Slow accelerating automatics are a thing of the past ;).

I've driven a couple of English automatics, but I doubt you would have heard of them. Vauxhall Vectra (new one) and Renault Clio. My uncle has to have one when he comes over you see.

Sure I heard of them ;) Vauxhall is Opel here in Germany ... and Renault is Renault ... and I have driven both of them and yes they are slow if you get the entry model. I'm currently driving a Mazda 6 automatic 2.3 liter engine with 166hp and 4WD ... trust me it's fun, and if you turn of traction control you don't have the slightest problem leaving some rubber on the road while reaching it's top speed of around 155 mph (German Autobahn ftw!). Not bad for an estate car, now is it?

Its just stuff that comes natural dude... I am 33 and have been driving for years and you will get to a stage where your eyes are just on the road rather than whats in the car. Finding gears etc etc just comes without you needing to look down or check you have it in the right gear.

Driving over here is pretty easy just gota assume that every other person on the road is a nutter......whats the process of passing your driving test in the states ne way....i remember i saw an episode of saved by the bell once where they were learning to drive in a golf cart in a sportshall

In my town, every other person on the road really is crazy, though mostly old. The average age of my town is about 70 I think, no joke.

To get a license in the Florida you go to the place at 15 to take a written test(on a computer). Once you pass that you can drive for a year with an adult and then you go back at 16 to take a driving test. Pass that and you have a license!

Yup, there are way to many old people in Florida, but hey it has to be one of the easiest states to get your driving license in.

Other towns in Florida I go to feel like college towns(ex. Gainesville) even if there is no college near them just because I am so used to seeing gray and white hair everywhere.

But as easy as it is to get a license here, I know lots of people who failed their written tests many times.
Its only 20 questions and you only have to get 15 correct.

All I had was a phone-

Oh right, didn't realise you were from Germany. Just presumed you went american. My mum/me have a clio manual, and it felt alot nicer to drive than the auotmatic.

I had drivers ed about 12 years ago. The first kid that got to drive spent more than 50% of the time with the right side of the car off the road because he was too nervous to drive properly. What a douche bag, I had logged so many hours driving my moms car (that I frequently stole in the middle of the night) I knew how to drive like a champ already....
