Anyone try a Component cable other than the Premium pack-in? I've noticed Monster has one available. My setup looks great, but just wondering if a higher quality cable will provide any improvement. The pack-in just seems really low quality...and the connector to my optical audio cable is awful! Doesn't seem to click in properly, it's very loose. Anyone else have that problem? Or do I have a bum cable?

You are correct, EVERY M$ X360 cable is like that. I actually returned my cable because the optical cable woudl keep falling out whenever i moved the system at all. I thought I had a faulty cable. THey're all like that!!! What horrible first party quality. If you have seen a monster cable for x360, I would be very interested in it. Could you post a link maybe?

Appreciate it. Looks exactly like what I need. Unfortunately, monster cables are always like 100 bucks canadian. But meh, they are good! A lot better than this lame fat one my optical cable keeps falling out of.
Now I just gotta find someone who has them and will ship to canada... Amazon will only ship books and some other stuff to canada for some reason, and it's not on amazon.ca, they have like 10% of what amazon.com has

To answer the OP's question... My opinion is that high priced cables are totally not worth the extra money. We're only talking about some wires running through your living room or bedroom. There's nothing in your house creating enough RF intereference to justify triple shielded cabling.
As for the toslink connector, it's transmitting a digital optical signal, so it either works, or it doesn't.

I'm aware my image and sound quality aren't going to change in any noticable way. But it's pretty important to me that my optical cable doesn't fall out the back of the xbox360 HDAV connector everytime I move my system. That means no sound until I fix it, and i hate bending under my tv stand to fix that thing!

I ended up finding one of those monster cables at a local bestbuy. I picked it up, was 100$ canadian though. Ouch. Well worth it for not bending over all the time and fixing the crappy one that came with the system. And I can use my extra optical cable for my HD set top box.

Eeww... I'm not a fan on Monster's stuff at all. Hopefully that cable fixed your problem Crono, but in my opiniion, I hope that no one buys these cables hoping for better quality sound or video...
The people that make cables sure have people confused. I love the fact that you can go to Best Buy and look at their high quality HDMI cables that they have for 100, 200, 300, and 400 bucks (american). Um, come on people... It's freaking digital... You're either getting the 1's and 0's or you aren't.

I'm not confused on anything, there was little to no other options except really crap 3rd party brands and the official M$ brand where my optical cable would just fall out all the time. As I said above, I'm well aware my gaming experience isn't going to change because I bought top-of-the-line cables, but I feel that my back is worth 99$ and I'm looking forward to not having to fix it every time I have to move my xbox 360. Plus, they look sexy and match the colour scheme.
I don't think you have to worry about all sorts of people running out and buying fancy cables because you haven't "warned" them... Plus, I had monster cables for my xbox after that stupid "box" that was the offical microsoft kit stopped working and they performed flawlessly for years. So far I've been completely unimpressed with microsofts cable offerings, and monsters offerings have been flawless and appealing to the eye. If it's important to me and I can afford it, I can't see any good reason not to buy them.

Didn't mean to imply that you shouldn't have bought the cable. I realize that you had a legitimate problem with the MS cables and needed to do something about it.
For some reason the hairs on my neck stand up when people talk about monster for quality just because I've seen my parents/friends/relatives waste a fair chunk of change on them.

Well, everyone has a different experience of course. Admittedly, they cost way more than they should, but so do most things considered "top-of the-line". I'm aware I'm paying for the warranty, durability and looks that come with them. I see your point that the consumer needs to know that this won't improve your picture quality or sound by any noticable degree. They are quite decieving by trying to claim that.

I have to agree, it's just marketing. You're paying for the name and they want to trick you with a bunch of techno-babble. Unless your buddy just brought home a book on circuit theory and is hacking a cable together for you in his garage, then any component cable is fine. Buy based on price, not name.
I've actually seen some cables in the hundreds of dollars and it makes sense. You have guys who just layed down a few grand on a beautiful entertainment system/tv and now think "oh what's a few hundred more on cable going to matter" and you know it's immoral what some of these companies are getting away with but then again some people say it's immoral to let a sucker keep his money.

I hope you read all the above posts to see that we've already discussed and agreed on everything you said... Or did you just want to agree with us? I have completely different reasons for buying the cable, again, as I explained above.

That would be why! I don't have any problem with the video cables, but the optical connector is horrible and I often switch from my wireless to going direct into my router when I need to host, so I can't have it falling out all the time.
