CATAN: ACHIEVEMENT GUIDE

SETTLER OF CATAN: Build a settlement in any game of catan. (10 points)
This achievement is very easy to accomplish. It can be done in any game either against the computer (on any difficulty) or on multiplayer via xbox live (ranked or player match).
In order to build a settlement, you first need to build another road after the initial start, because every settlement or city must be at least two roads away from any other settlement or city. When the game starts, you get to place one road. So, all you need to do is get a brick and wood resource card, build another road off the last one. Then, you need to get one wood, one brick, one grain, and one wool. Then, you can build your settlement.
SCHOLAR OF CATAN: Win a single-player game against three a.i. opponents set to moderate. (10 points)
Set up a single-player game on moderate difficulty. Once you get the tactics of the game down, this will be a breeze. The computer will not be easily persuaded to trade with you, but if you play your cards right, you will be fine. I personally like to buy development cards, so I like to place my settlements on grain, wool, and ore.
VILLAGER OF CATAN: Collect 25 Victory Points as you play Catan; points are tracked across games. (10 points)
This achievement will come as you play. You can earn these points through both single-player (any difficulty) and multiplayer games (ranked or player). Mostly likely after you have played three to five games, you will unlock this achievement.
AMBASSADOR OF CATAN: Invite someone into a game of Catan (10 points)
For this achievement, I just set up a private match and invited one of my buddies. As soon as he accepted, I got the achievement. The person you invite MUST accept the invite and come into the lobby for the achievement to unlock.
Another way to get this achievement is to set-up a player match lobby, as soon as someone joins, TELL them you are going to boot them and invite them in so you can get the achievement...just REPAY the favor for them.
BUILDER OF CATAN: End any game of Catan in possession of the Longest Road card 10 times. (20 points)
To unlock this achievement, you have to finish ten games while having the Longest Road. You DO NOT have to win, just finish. The easiest way to get this achievement is to place your initial settlements on wood and brick spaces. OR you can place you first two settlements next to one another and connect their roads to start.
The Longest Road card is given to the longest road OVER five pieces. Once you get the card keep building on your road, because someone can take it from you if they build their road over five. You can earn this achievement through single-player (any difficulty) and multiplayer (ranked or player). Both types of games will add to your totally.
KNIGHT OF CATAN: End any game of Catan in possession of the Largest Army card 10 times. (20 points)
To unlock this achievement, you have to finish ten games while having the Largest Army. You DO NOT have to win, just finish. To get this achievement, you are going to need to buy development cards. In order to buy development cards, you need wool, grain, and ore.
So, the best thing to do is to place you pieces on those spaces. Also, you can try to trade all your other cards (wood and brick) away for the ones you need. The computer RARELY buys development cards.
To get the largest army in any game, you must play at least three soldiers. Remember, just like the longest road, just because you get it first doesn't mean someone can't take it from you, so keep buying soldiers.
MERCHANT OF CATAN: Acquire 100 resources cards in trade in any game of Catan. (20 points)
In order to unlock this achievement, you must trade 100 cards throughout your games of Catan. You can trade with another player or the computer. If you want this achievement quickly, you can set up a player match with a buddy. Then, you guys can just continuously trade all the cards you have to each other over and over again until you get it. But, if you are playing Catan for the more than the achievements, you will most likely get it within ten games. The number of cards acquired through trades adds up throughout all your games.
PROFESSOR OF CATAN: Win a single-player against three A.I. opponents set to hard. (20 points)
I got this on my first try, but I am a long time player of Catan. It is not all that hard, but the computer will NOT trade with you when you are in the lead. I suggest buying development cards as often as you can. There are Victory Points on some of the cards and there are also soldier. You get two Victory Points for finishing the game with the largest army. Also, the two of three cards you need for Development Cards, can be used for cities (grain and ore). Cities also give you two points.
CITIZEN OF CATAN: Collect 100 Victory Points as you play Catan; points are tracked across games. (20 points)
You can unlock this achievement through single-player (any difficulty) or multiplayer (ranked or player) or a combination of both. Once you get your 100th point, the achievement immediately unlocks.
ELDER OF CATAN: Collect 250 Victory Points as you play Catan; points are tracked across games. (20 points)
You can unlock this achievement through single-player (any difficulty) or multiplayer (ranked or player) or a combination of both. Once you get your 250th point, the achievement immediately unlocks.
STATESMEN OF CATAN: Collect 500 points in ranked match play. (20 points)
This achievement may only be done ONLINE in RANKED matches. You must collect 500 Victory Points in Ranked play. The achievement will unlock immediatley after your 500th point.
CHANCELLOR OF CATAN: Collect 1,000 points in ranked match play. (20 points)
This achievement may only be done ONLINE in RANKED matches. You must collect 1,000 Victory Points in Ranked play. The achievement will unlock immediatley after your 1,000th point.
