I definitely don't want to raise a big hoopla on these boards, and I am in no way a "Troll", as many of my fellow gamers can attest. Yet I do have a concern, maybe even a personal delimna, when it comes to Oblivion.

I will make this as short and to the point as possible.

I am a huge "PC" Gamer, as it has always been my platform of choice. Recently, I decided, mainly due to the community and achievement points, that I was going to start playing all the dual release games on the Xbox 360 instead of my PC. I was pleasantly suprised by COD2, and although there was DEFINITELY a difference, it was not as glaring as I thought. My PC is a beast, and it blows away the Xbox360 version, yet the 360 version does a very very good job graphically all the same.

Now my delimna. It appears that Oblivion, due to recently released screenshots, now has a much much larger gap graphically between the two systems. Now, I don't play games "Just for the graphics", but when it comes down to a difference this large, and it's an RPG, and it's an Elder Scrolls title, it matters to me.

Take a look at these SIDE by SIDE on your monitor:

Xbox360

Obviously these aren't the same exact places, but you can definitely see a huge difference in lighting, foliage, polygon count and most importantly, texturing.

Again, this is NOT a troll post, it's not my style. I am just concerned. I will obviously pick the one I feel will make me happy, but if the difference is really this large, then I will be a bit upset. Thanks guys...

Hmmm, i'm not to sure you can tell by them 2 pictures as clearly as you make out, they are different scenes, foliage is meant to look different in different places etc etc.

Don't get me wrong, i certainly think the PC version can and will look better, but this has been the case for many many years.

In my eyes people are eirther PC or Console gamers, even more so now that nearly all the must-own titles come out on all platforms. PC gamers are the hardcore gamers, and frankly gamers with money who can afford to update there PC as and when need-be. Console owner's are more relaxed in there attutide, sure they can still play games hard, but they don't want the extra hassle.

I use to be a PC gamer while i had my PS1 / PS2, but only then for titles that i couldn't play on my console (Half-Life, CS, Silver, Kingpin etc)

Then i stopped cause my PC was always going out of date, the last game i played was Half-Life 2, then it couldn't handle Doom 3 propley, so i got that on my Xbox instead.

My point being that if your a PC Gamer anyway (as you say you are Drakkenstrike) then if i was, i wouldn't even consider getting Oblivion on the 360, a RPG will always be better suited to a PC layout (this was the main complaint about Morrowind PC vs Xbox) and if you have a top PC, yes the graphics will be better. But gamers like me can't afford to folk out and make our PC's compatable with Oblivion, and i'm sure it will still be a top exprience on the 360 anyway.

I read that they were making the shadows or something less detailed for the PC but were keeping them full out on the xbox.

Are yo usure it's not time of day that effects that picture comparison? It seems a little drastic. Whatever the case, as long as Oblivion looks good on my xbox 360, and has the gameplay I expect of it, I'll be happy. I'm not going to sit around dreaming about how the graphics will have looked better on a top-of-the-line PC that I can't afford. Morrowind looked a lot better on a good PC than the original xbox but I thoroughly enjoyed playing it on the xbox.

ROBBED! Dude, all along they were showing PC shots even for 360 articles.

I heard recently in an interview with the developers that many of the surroundings would not feature shadows or reflections, which is pretty retarded. People who think disappearing bodies in Tomb Raider is cool probably wont care, but Oblivion is supposed to be the be all end graphics showcase, and things like that are really going to stick out when everything else looks so good.

But your screenshot comparison and some recent movies do show that a monster PC like yours is going to simply blow away the 360. I remember Morrowind. I fell in love on the Xbox, but got it for the mods on PC. Anyone whose played them both knows the Xbox version felt like it was stuck in the mud. The framerate and res was HORRIBLE!

Im going to be honest, I would prefer you get it for the PC so I dont have to worry about your GS, but I also do think its going ot be a better experience on a worthwhile PC setup.

If I wasnt still obsessed with GS and had a more updated rig, I would without a doubt go PC. Besides, you will get much more out of it when they start doing mods. MY personal favorite was the one that removed those motherf***ing flying things! I HATED THEM!! HATE!!!!!

Lets go get some ice cream!

Yeah your right Fall3N. I will more than likely pick it up for my PC (90% sure). Or I may do the split like I did with COD2. I definitely agree though, mods are where it is at.

It's worth mentioning again that Modern Combat for the Xbox 360 is essentially a souped-up and improved version of Modern Combat for the Xbox and PS2, and it only bears superficial resemblance to last year's hit PC game. While the PC version focuses mainly on large-scale multiplayer matches on huge maps (supporting up to 64 players), Modern Combat balances a single-player campaign along with a somewhat smaller-scale multiplayer component. Don't worry, though, because you'll still get to interact with plenty of high-tech, modern-day weaponry in intense battles.

Ouch... Guess it wont be the PC version after all. Just thought Id tell you here since your wife is playing Zuma and doesnt answer my l337 questions about the last mission of Outpost Kaloki.

Thats one less game to be excited about...

I am hoping that Bethesda doesn't chop the graphics up too much. From the (super-compressed) e3 video, it looked really nice. I wanted to see the DVD non-compressed version, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I heard rumors that the shadows and lights were revamped, making it brighter, but also sort of "ruining" the mood. I can't remember where I seen this, but i also heard that the grass and such load pretty close to you where you can actually see beyond it. It is all rumors though, so I have my hopes.

The game will be great, but it will most definitely have flaws. THey have way overhyped it visually and will underdeliver. I would have just enjoyed the game anyway if they hadnt claimed it was the first truly next-gen game.

Graphical nitpicking and disappointment aside, it is also apparently much shorter than Morrowind. Check VARK's gamercard. He got 1000 points in just 5 days. I spent a whole day in Morrowind just trying to turn into a vampire.

All Im sayin, prepare for disappointment!

Playing with keyboards as opposed to controllers. I love keyboards. Especially typing on them and feel their silky smoothness as my fingers gently caress them. Excuse me. *Grabs a kleenex and leaves the room.*

Those pictures are both from the PC, and the PC and Xbox 360 version will graphically be identical (said by every gaming site and the developers themselves). The only difference is that the PC version has options to lower the graphics, so it can be played on inferior computers. The Xbox360 has everything enabled, while the PC version has the option to disable some stuff.

The gamesites that has tested it so far have actually commented that the 360 version seems to be running smoother than the PC version, yet looks graphically identical.

So I'd pick the 360 version.
