This is posted in the TR forum, but I thought it should be mentioned in here too. And it might make it easier to understand since I'm putting this in my own words, and some of the explanations out there are pretty confusing.
To make the TT achievements easier to get, do the following:
a) Select "Replay Level" on the level you want to get the TT achievement for.
b) Change difficulty to Time Trial and press continue.
c) After you get the first checkpoint in the level (usually immediately after the first cutscene, which you can skip) just quit the game.
d) Go back to the level in the menu and leave the difficulty where it is (it won't be on Time Trial anymore) and continue the level.
e) Now you can continue through the level as slow and careful as you want without your time counting down. Once you are near the end, let yourself die somehow. You will see that you'll be sent to the most recent checkpoint and your TT time will start from zero seconds, and none of the time up to that checkpoint will count.
f) Finish the level and get the achievement. If you died early on in the level, it might be harder since your first death is where the time actually starts counting down.
If you have set the difficulty at the very beginning to Tomb Raider when you started your game, it might be easier to start a new one on easy while you're getting these, since most of the level you'll be playing on as the difficulty you originally selected. I've been just been doing it on hard personally, since I didn't want to make a new game save for this, but some may find it too difficult to get through the levels without dying.
