I know what I need to do - but how to do it is driving me potty.

Chapter 5 - Pillar of Light

Where you have to destroy the pillar/huge weapon tower before it blows up your sattelite.

I smack it with everything I have got and yet nothing.

Is there a specific way of taking the shield down around the base ??? This is one of the missions holding me up from 100% completed on normal.

The way i did it the first time around...

i first took out the surrounding defences so i can attack without having the worry of having lasers going up my ass

then i started pounding on that thing as hard as i could

maybe you have to hit it at a certain angle or something.

I can get into the shield - but then I am too close and take personal damage. I have also taken out the turrets bugging me but still cannot get the tower to explode.

Driving me nuts.

Thanks for the advice fella, but I just wanted to ask if anyone else had any thoughts / strategy on doing it ???

This troubled me too, whatever I tried it killed me. I googled "Armored Core 4" "Pillar of Light" and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwyNgF7pUJ8

It shows you pretty well, but you still need to attack the tower from the *direct* front. Other sides have little (or possible no) effect. Just equip the moonblades or whatever they are, the ones you get from beating Anjou (iirc) and take a couple swipes at it.

It's been awhile since I played the game, but I recall mounting 2 Hi Lasers on my back, and a machine gun (for incoming missles)

Those Hi Lasers do some major damage and negate much of the PA that surrounds the pillar.
