FAQ

Everytime I go to resize a picture, it always cuts off the picture instead of resizing it. What am I doing wrong?

Open>Choose The Picture>Image>Scale Image

That did the trick. Thanks Chris. :)

Now I just need to know how to put a border on this and then my first sig will be done!

1. Make sure your Color are set to default.(Black/white)

2. Take the image you want to add the border to and create a new TRANSPARENT layer.

3. Goto Select | All

4. Next you want to go to Edit | Stroke selection Making sure your Foreground Color is Black

5. Stroke the selection with the width of 10.

6. Now change you Foreground color over to White and do Edit | Stroke selection.

7. This time you want to make sure your width is set to 8.

8. Now repeat step 4.

9. This time you want to change the width to 5.

10. Once you have all those steps done Goto the new layer you have been adding the border to and change the layer mode from Normal to Overlay.

How/ Where do I save my work in GIMP when Im done it says error all the time.

File>Save As>Type What You Want To Be The Title And Add .jpg .jpeg .png or .gif at the end. .GIF is for Animation Sigs and I prefer .png.

Meh, I sized it as 475x85 on GIMP, and so it's all screwed up on the image websites.

Ok, nevermind, you use scale image right?

Yep. I use the % when I do it though. You sig's nice for a beginner. When you want to use renders go to renderplanet.com(?). That way you don't have to cut anything out. It's great!

Best way to re size images hands down is Irfanview (http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967?id=194967). Its purpose is to re size images and make them look good while you do it, but it has some other functions. Just click the name and it'll take you to download it. Its a small file and once you have it set up just:
File>Open>(the picture)>Image>Re size/ Re sample>choose the size you want>save, or save as

That's the fastest way and is pretty nice program.

No in step 2 he said to make a new transparent layer. That layer will have the border. Open up your layer panel and above opacity will be a dropdown menu. Select "Overlay" after you've done all the other steps.

Save it as a .xcf so you can come back to it later to continue working on it.When your done save as .jpg .gif or .png depending on what it is.

Just finished rendering this image:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a397/Eliteforce15/MEGANFOXRENDER.png

I plan to use the top-half of this render so I didn't bother on erasing any of the grass around her hand. Overall, I think I did an 'ok' job seeing as this is my first render. Your thoughts?

If Gimpshop is giving you trouble like you told me then just got with Gimp 2. The only difference might be that Gimpshop could be out of date and not compatible with vista.

Then you did something wrong because I see a grey outline around the render.

It doesn't matter if you suck a little bit since you resize it and should effects which take away from that. So it doesn't have to be a perfect render. Also You don't need the path tool to make a clean render. Look at my render in the Custom Pics thread. All done with the eraser and the zoom set at 800%

Your doing something wrong. There is no erasing when rendering with paths.

Are your render and your background in the same layer? Because it only does the layer that you have highlighted.

I have 2 layers, one is the background, one is the render. I want to blur the render but it only blurs the inside of the render and doesn't affect the background.

Then I tried putting the render and background together and blurring it, same thing.

I'll just start working with other stuff on my sig and see if it makes the render look any better, then. If it still looks like **** I'll render the image for the third time.

Rendered it for the 3rd time:

http://i19.tinypic.com/6cels84.png

I guess I did a little bit better. I can't render her hair right because in the original image it looks like it's blended into the grassy background so it's hard to tell what to cut out and what not to cut out when your're zoomed in at 400%.

To the person with the gaussian blur problem:Do merge visible layers first.
When using paths blow the image up to 400 0r 800% then lay down the paths.

Press File>Save As>Type in xxxx.xcf

Make the x's your title and make it end in .xcf if you are planning on re-opening it and working on it some more. Or save it as .png to get good quality images if you're done working on the image. Then make sure you set the destination thing to your desktop or whatever.
