Because you don't always need to talk about game specific achievements, a more general area would be awesome to have.

Seems like a reasonable suggestion. For now, just use off-topic for general discussion. I will mention to the monsters that this has been suggested so those of us who want to rant on about acheivements in general have a better place to do it lol =)

i think off topic shoudl be anything not xbox related. general chat is where the current off topic items shoudl be.

I agree with SnoPro... The stuff is not off-topic, it just doesn't fit into a current category. Off-topic should be for comepletely game-unrelated.

I did not say that off-topic was in any way an ideal place for such comments. I am saying that is the appropriate place for such posts UNTIL there is a forum like the one he desires.

Off-topic can be game related if you want it to be. It could be talking about how you spilled coffee in your xbox and now it won't play games the same as it used to. You could also talk about that in the xbox hardware forum BUT it could be argued as it is such an odd issue, it is more appropriate in off-topic.

Since there is no "general chat" forum like snopro speaks of, I would still encourage forum posters to post general achievement chat like "wouldn't it be nice if they had 1200 points in some games?" in the off-topic forum.

I'm against making a General Achievement board. What else is there to talk about the achievements than talking about them for their specific game? I don't see this category would cause anything else than people having to look through 3 boards to check out all the information there may be on a title. We already have glitches as a seperate board from the achievements. I don't feel this board would be useful at all since there really isn't that much to talk about achievements "in general".
Threads that would fit under there would be like "How awesome is this achievement thing?" and "Do you care about achievements?". If somebody starts posting about experiences with certain achievements in a game outside of the game board i feel it would just end up like a mess.

But thats my opinion.

He was merely suggesting. :? Sorry if you consider this taking a stab at you but nobody said anything about that. He simply added our comment to the original post. And that was not sarcasm and was sincerely just for clarification.

Argh. I hate when I have to bring in another quote to make a point...

To me, when one says: "general chat is where the current off-topic items should be" one is speaking as if that forum already exists. If he would have said something along the lines of "If we had a general chat forum", etc. then that would have made sense in the way you are saying he was merely "suggesting".

That's what I was talking about in that previous post. I'm not going to say whether I think there should be a forum like the OP desires, I'll leave that up to the monsters to decide.

There are tons of things that could be discussed about achievements in general other than stuff like "achievements are cool" and such. You just need to be more creative instead of closed-minded about it. I don't think it would end up just being "a mess." I mean, what's to stop people who only have one game to go to that game's forum and say "How awesome are (game name here)'s achievements?" and/or "Do you care about getting achievements in (game name here)?"

As I was browsing through the different forums, I just felt that there was a hole in the board where the general achievement discussion should be. And of course, if a new forum were created for it and you didn't like it, it's not like it will hurt you to simply not go to it (if it's really that bad, which wouldn't be the case anyway).

Very good points. One may want to compare how he feels about one games achievements with many other games achievements, etc. and for general achievement/comparison discussion like that it simply makes more sense to have one big forum for such discussions rather than have a discussion like that in an individual games forum where it is unlikely to get much attention.

When Monster 1 and I were setting up the boards, we just kind of threw it together. We didn't really think much of this particular forum, as we just figured "off-topic" would work.

We could always rename "off-topic" to "general discussion". It is just a name. :D

no. that would kill off topic then. you need to create a general chat, and move all the offtopic posts to it, then have offtopic be off topic, such as talk about anythign not xbox. cars, babes, other systems. computers etc.
