Forum Update

[Monster 2 of 2]

Everything seems to be in order for the update. The forum update will be taking place in the wee hours of tuesday morning. We did a test import for the new forums today (why the forums were down for around 5 hours) and everything seems to be running smooth. You should be presented with a nice surprise tomorrow morning!

Thanks for letting me know, I tried to get onto the forums earlier (about 12.00pm) and they were down. I was getting a tonne of messages from people on Xbox Live about the forum.

For anyone that wants to know, if you scroll down to the bottom of any given page here and it still reads "PHPBB" then you're viewing the board you've always known. If it reads "vBulletin" you've come across the new board and newer era as well. :)

The transition to a new forum type is a regular occurrence in the internet world...of course there are ways, usually a long, tedious process, to transition to a new forum type keeping all your data still in tact. Otherwise, a website is less likely to move its forum venue because of the loss of age-gathered information, and so competing forum companies are very info-inclusive on how, by either offering programs or how-to's, to transition...otherwise, their bottom-line wouldn't be as large. ;)

I remember reading somewhere that if you move forum-admins (soz, can't think of the proper word) that it deletes most information.

Personally hope there aren't custom avatars (or signatures for that matter). Some here abuse the signatures as it is already (ie. sizing) so I can only imagine the abuse the avatars would have. But for the record, yes, you can have avatars with vBulletin but I'd rather see them given to members that have been around for a long time (not post counts please and when I say members that have been around for a while, I mean over a year) or something along that line or not at all. Just my opinion about that though.

Wow, it's done and it's different....

Only a couple of things that I'm not so much a fan of (minor issues though):

1) On the main "topic listings" page, you can't anymore see who has the latest post. You now have to actually open the topic forum itself to see this.

2) The topic listings seems a bit sluggish to me, like it takes a bit longer to load. Perhaps that's just me though.

Otherwise not a bad change at all....

Love the new style by the way only problem i have seen is the forum name for "Viva Pinata" which says "Viva Piñata".

I don't want to seem ungrateful or anything because i'm not. I love the new update it makes the site feel like a proper community now, but there are a few things that I think need changing:

1) Quick Reply box is far too small, it really looks out of place.
2) It feels and looks really crowded for some reason now, maybe if you could remove the adverts on the right hand side and bring the page out to just until the pink box at the top.
3) On the main page where it says "Last post August 28th, 2007" that makes it look crowded once again, setting it back to the username of the last poster would be much better.

Not so much an improvement just a nice little feature:
4) Where you have the huge list of games I think there should be a tiny little image of the image on the left hand side. Like on the Achievement List pages when you scroll over a game a little image pops up, because at the moment it's just one huge block of text with the same image over and over.

Thats all I think needs improving, again I don't want to seem ungrateful or disrespectful because the update is excellent and just what the forums needed. But theres always room for improvement and I bet other people have a few tiny things that they would change.
