1. Common
2. Kanye West
3. Lil' Wayne
4. 50 Cent
5. Chamillionaire
And, I would throw Soulja Boy in there but, I'm not really for that down south rap. Don't forget it's a movement though!

Common?
I've heard him, but I never liked his style.
Soulja boy is horrible. His songs have no meaning. Look at the lyrics for Crank Dat. I laughed myself crazy on words that he like made up or just threw in there to make it sound cooler. I like the whole thing he's got goin but he's not a great rapper.
50 cent is a friggin disgrace. Everyone of his albums have pretty much sucked since GRoDT. I bought the Massacre the day it came out and popped it in, only to learn that I didn't like any songs but the Hate it or Lover it Remix and that was a dissapointment. His new album makes me want to shoot 50 Cent 9 more times. But come on - "I'm laughing Straight to the Bank with this... Hahaha ha ha hahahaha"? Worst song ever. His new stuff just sucks. He raps about the same things e v e r y s i n g l e t i m e. Is he ever gonna do something different?
Lil Wayne is so overrated it makes me want to cry. His lyrics, just like 50 Cent's, make me want to cry as much as that Britney kid. His beats are pretty good and he has a good voice but his songs also have no meaning. Remember when Rap started and 2Pac and biggie were doing their thing and it was all just about expressing themselves? Well at least that was the message that we were getting in all these interviews with these rappers. Now look what happened. All these southern rappers come into the game and can't rap for crap. Now it seems that all these songs are now getting made just ofr the sole purpose of making it a club-joint. Rap is just declining. It's not the same anymore.

Your comments aren't too insightful, why even bother responding to this topic? It's obvious you are just looking for an argument.

1) Eminem...By far the best lyricist of all time. If you don’t believe me just listen to his battle raps and diss songs. His songs to Ja-Rule, Benzino, etc. His new album that is going to come out should be amazing. Eminem has had to deal with so much since he last album that he is going to have a lot of emotion to let out on his new album, especially in the tribute song to Proof.
2) 2Pac…Rap wouldn’t be anything without the influence of Tupac Shakur. The world of rap and music is truly a better place due to his music. “Changes”, in my opinion is the greatest rap song ever recorded. It actually speaks to society.
3) Bone Thugs…Rap and harmonizing…wow! Bone Thugs are the most unique group to ever enter the rap game.
4) Yorel…This kid is awesome. My buddy bought his CD from him while he was selling it on the streets. He is incredible and will hopefully make it big one day. Redemption, his first album, is the one that I have and love. His songs like “Feel My Pain”, “We Fall, We Rise”, and “Poetry in the Graveyard” are one of a kind. His new album looks good, I actually think I am going to order it tonight.

5) Fort Minor…Different, which is always good. “Remember the Name” is one of my favorite songs ever.
6) Ice Cube…He has been in the game forever now. He has made some of the greatest songs of all time. I love his War and Peace album, the War disc.
7) John Cena…People bag on him, but if you actually listen to other songs on his album then you would respect what he does (Just Another Day in the Life, Right Now, The Time is Now, If it all Ended Tomorrow).
PS: I see a lot of you love Kanye West, but I hate him. He makes music that has more pop elements that rap. He is a sell-out to what sells. He has lost his true rap instinct. Money is more important to him than the music, IMO.

Just because he is unique doesn't mean he sucks. He actually sings about things and in the rap world that is sometimes hard to find. Maybe he doesn't want to sound like everything else out there. You said it yourself, different is good. That's what Kanye brings to the table. Try listening to something other than one of his singles.

I'm surprised to see a lot of people with Kanye West in their top 5. Most people I know hate him mainly because he whines too much (the last MTV incident) and where he is from (Chicago suburbs rather then a city like most other rappers).
