Painting an Xbox 360.

hey all....ive decided im going to do it...im going to paint my xbox 360(top and bottom shell, faceplate and controllers. ive got a bunch of friends helping out....when i finish, i will take pictures for all to view! tell me suggestions on colors?

What are you painting it with? If you're doing the whole thing you'll have to be careful, I would also like to do this, but I'm not sure what paint is safe to use, and would stick to it properly etc. I'm not very knowledgeable in paints =o

well i used gloss rustoleum, on my faceplate and it is shiny and very nice looking i would suggest thaT. but keep it thin, too thick will cause drippinmg.. bad.

Remove all the parts you want to have painted and give it to a decent grafitti-artist and tell him to go nuts. you'd probably get a hella cool and original 360.

the things im painting are, the top and bottom shells of the system, the face plate, and the controllers....im also buying an LED kit to change the ring of light to red. and i already drew 3 designs and i brought up my favorite one....can you guys help me out with what paints i should use?

and suggestions for colors!

I don't know what kind of paint to use. Use some sort of enamel maybe. I've airbrushed with it before and painted models.

I think I might get some blue lights and replace my ring on the console and the controllers but that would void my warranty on the console so I'm afraid. :P

lol ive already voided it haha :lol: i removed the 2 shells to see how i should paint it and how biig the designs wuld hav to be... the only hard part is finding good paint.....i hate that

Why paint it? Just go to decalgirl and get a sweet looking skin for it. I don't think I could paint mine, I would be to afraid that I'd ruin it or something.

Carefull not to get paint in the vent holes. Also hope the paint doesn't keep the heat in

Yeah, tel me about it. There's already a problem with the 360s overheating and stuff. I wouldn't want to make it worse by painting over the damn holes.

heh...ill make sure to be VERY cautious around the holes.....even though havent had ANY problem with my 360 yet lol...but im painting it today....testing it out with the faceplate 1st

well, ive done a paint test on the faceplate before i did the 2 shells, and i just used one paint.....Rustoleum's Paint for Plastics and it came out PERFECT. im just letting it dry up so i can paint the designs. it wasnt that hard after all!! and yes i will post pictures as i come along(sorry if the quality will suck its gonna come from my camera phone)

UPDATE: alright everyone. i have painted the top shell, and i have sanded the top shell. it is nearly complete....i will be providing pictres soon. stay posted!

dont worry all. ive taken a bunch of pictures. the 360 should be cured and ready to go come friday! tomorrow im going to paint the design(DemonNoodle,and Satanic Pentacles) and after thats done...the pix will be posted...this thing will be done by the end of the week.

UPDATE#2!!!!

I just walked back in the house with my NEWLY repainted xbox 360 controller.....it was hell to put back together. guess what everyone!?

well im going to paint the disk tray and power button with a paintbrush....because spraying it is dangerous...but its not fully complete yet! im working on painting the designs! i just got done with the faceplate

all i ued was Rustoleum Paint for Plastix spray paint(blacK) and it works perfectly...i played GRAW with it, and noithing is damaged...you just have to be VERY careful painting the top shell....and to paint the design i used Rustoleum Painter's touch Latex paint.....works WELL!!! i will post pix of the FINAL design tomorrow!!!

Man, if you lived closer to me, I would pay you to paint my 360 pure black, with a pure black controller. I wish MS would have come out with a pure black 360, that is so sick looking. They will probably come out with different colors later, and then those of us who want black ones will have to shell out another $400 for the black one, which will suck.

yeah, just incase that happened, i made a 360 that no person can duplicate! this is a one of a kind, original 360 i painted!!! i just finished the bottom shell of the console just now.....i will post a picture of it now!!

no, you cant paint over the infared or you wont get signal...thats a horrible idea, dont mess up your box...

That's crazy. I want to paint my 360 and controllers black and then mod the lights so they are blue and make the fan blue to the back glows. :twisted: Be an investment but I could get my parents to help me. ;o Maybe not mod the system because it would void my warranty but that'd be crazy.

I think I will paint me won 360. I am even thinking about ading a cut in so you can see inside. But one things for sure I am gonna add two more heat sync to better cool the box. I probably wont start til I have some money (which is gonna be awhile), but I would like your assistance Demon, if thats alright with you.

Probably in a couple of weeks or so. I need to buy some heatsinks for the southbridge and video encoder so i can get some better cooling. What I really want to do but am doubtful I can do it is cut into the side of the 360 so you can see inside; but maybe I will hire someone to do that.

The colors I want to work with are either blue and green or red and black, or some combo of those. I also want to replace the LEDs in the console and the controller with blue - I will need some help with that one.

I will start a new topic about after I post this, asking other peoples input. I want to increase the cooling efficiently as much as posisble.
