I went ahead and bought this game because I have been waiting for it for a looooooong time. I read the reviews before I picked it up and IGN gave it a 7.7. While Gamespot gave it a 9.0. I know that 7.7 does not constitute a gave as being terrible but just okay. While a 9.0 means that this game is in the top tier of the games released. I read the each review and it was like what one reviewer hated the other one loved. I have been playing this game for about 6 hours today and will definitely say that Gamespot got it right on this one. I respect both sites but this game works very well. I noticed what IGN said was wrong with it but that did not affect me enough to be disappointed with the game. I will agree that revealing a "twist" at the beginning is not a very good use of storytelling. I just want people who shy away from this game because of the IGN review to at least give it a chance because it is a very entertaining and deep game.

I wasn't really planning on gettin this game til a few days ago, I dont follow the hype. But that score that IGN gave the game is crap, which worried me for a bit, but I ended up gettin it anyways. They were so hyped about it, thats probably why they gave it a bad score, cuz it didn't live up to their expectations. The GS rating seems more correct.

That's interesting. I read the IGN review and I don't think they painted the game to be all that BAD, honestly. It seemed a lot like that reviewer just didn't like some of the choices that were made, which is totally fine. I have the game, haven't played it yet, but I never go by reviews anyway.

I need to check Game Informer and Gamespot, still. I always like to see what they have to say, even though it never influences me anyway.

I also wonder why people think there should be a multiplayer. Sure it is another component to add to a game and give it a longer lifespan but for some it is not needed. You have games that have great single players like Halo and Call of Duty that have great multiplayer. Then you have games that have a good single player like The Darkness and Stanglehold that have useless tacked on multiplayer. I am glad games like and games like bioshock this don't fall victim to having a unecessary multiplayer.

It's funny because as soon as I popped it in today, everyone on my friends list was sending me messages asking about multiplayer. Does it have multiplayer? Is it Online? Jeez. No and thank god, lol. I love it when a developer focuses strictly on a single player campaign game. Makes the game so much better. I could really careless about MP as it is. With so much focus on MP lately, all these companies are putting MP mode in every game, but the bad thing is, it's all start to look the same. They are so pressured to have an a mp mode, it seems like their just throwing the same ol stuff into every game. Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, CTF, Grab the Package, etc etc. Run around and shoot, camp, blah blah. It's all the same. It's so boring. Skate was really the only MP game I seriously enjoyed in a long time. Just because of the freshness of it. Something totally new. MP is just about the same every where you turn to.

But yeah, I'm glad the developers focused purely on a wonderful single player campaign for once. With all the games that have been coming out on 360, it's very rare we get a gem like this. Everything lately is Sports, Shooters, Racing, and things of that nature. Xbox lacks a strong action adventure genre. This game has a cool combat style, lots of things to do to keep you busy. Nice long, story, which is something you don't see alot of these days either. A nice long game. I love it when a game is a good 30+ hours. Oh well, thats just me.

But yeah, I'd go with Gamespot's 9.0 on this one. It's a lot of fun. One of them games you can just kind of kickback and enjoy.

I;d go with the 7.7 review. It's a great game, don't get me wrong. But, there are way too many flaws to give it a 9.

Yeah judging by IGN's reasons for a 7.7 it really does seem just. I don't know how a game with AI as bad as I saw and repetitive gameplay for the entire game can get a 9.0, despite how amazing everything else is.

I stopped trusting IGN after that review. I give it a 9.5. almost perfect, other than the semi-repetitive-ness and some flawed voice acting. I love it.

Depends on whether you stop at the first assassination or keep going. After the first kill it's a good 9/10; after 20 hours of mind-numbing repetition, with the game becoming not harder but immensily cheaper and more frustrating literally by the hour, 7/10 is about seven points too many.

it all depends on the people. i would give it a 9.0 but they could have a little bit more things to do while retrieving information for an assassination. pickpocketing and listening to people becomes boring after a while.

IGN used to be worth a darn with its reviews. 7.7, no way. I'd give it at least a 9 for now.

I got the game yesturday and was scared by the IGN review of 7.7 and other comments on the site, but I would definately lean more towards the 9.0 from Gamespot. I might not give it the full 9.0, but at least an 8.5.

Yes, the gameplay can be repetitive after a while, but they did add 3 things that I liked about this game that's different from other games. 1) The interactive loading screen! Finally instead of standing around looking at a plain loading screen, I can mildly amuse myself by spinning in circles or flailing my weapons around :) 2) Interactive cutscenes! Yes, you can't do much but walk around and move the camera, but there isn't some generic scene that doesn't take into affect where you are or what you're doing. 3) The "unique" story (and story within a story) that was present! I was happy with the storyline even though, like someone said, a twist was right at the beginning and the "conclusion" of the game was ***Comment Deleted due to Spoiler Alert***

Anywho... I also loved the "No ****ing Multiplayer" aspect! I also hate when good single player games have unneccessary MP attached (ex: Saint's Row). The only way I could concieve it would be if it were Co-Op Simultanious MP, but that would just screw up the storyline :(

Well, that's my thoughts! And I agree with the bulk of you 100% for the most part :p

Just because its brand new doesnt mean it should be worshipped and given great scores.

I played on my brother's console and agree with the IGN score.
The potential well and truly was overhyped as usual.

After playing for quite a few hours, I can already see where IGN is coming from. The freerunning is amazing, best animation system on a game yet.

The problem is the core gameplay is the following:

1. Pickpocket
2. Eavesdrop
3. Interrogate
4. Informant (Flag/Assassination)
5. Assassination
6. Save Citizens
7. Viewpoints
8. Flags

That right there is the only gameplay contained within Assassins Creed. That is all you do, ever. The problem with this game is that they give you this amazing city, freerunning ability, but only have you doing one of 5 types of quests before an assassination and nothing more.

If they had done a quest system like a GTA game rather than the same 5 things, it would have been incredible. I still think it's alright, but I'd give it an 8/10 max.

Remove the freerunning and you have a game that would get like a 5/10 from most reviewers. There just isn't any substance.

Same here, 8.0 because its getting boring. High Five to their Artists though, amazing Graphics and Sounds. A few more Sidequests and few less Flags and itd be perfect.

the game has its faults but it should still be a 9.0, its fun and original which is rare in most new games

I'd agree with an 8.0 score, the repetition and lack of imagination in certain areas tarnishes an otherwise awesome game.
