How should i start?

I would like to learn how to make signatures and learn to use any program of that kind of stuff.
Any programs free and good for beginners?

Gimp ;). Click the dvd box of me that ai thoughtfully made (:P ai) and look under news for download links. Also TotalTutorial.com has some nice photoshop ones that could kinda apply to gimp. Theres also youtube :D. Hope it helps.
