View Full Version : What to use for sketching/painting?

I've had a tablet sitting in my room for a year or so now and just have not obtained software to use it with so I was wondering what program would be the best to use for sketching or painting with it? I know a lot of you do the signatures and what not so would GIMP be able to substitute for this purpose?

a lot of people use Photoshop when painting, but I thought the tablets come with their own software.

I know for a fact that photoshop can be used with a tablet and I wouldn't doubt it if gimp could use it either. Normally tablets come with some sort of program but it might depend on which brand you bought and how much you spent. I.e wacom 12x19 comes with "Adobe® Photoshop® Elements 4 for editing family photos, Corel® Painter™ Essentials 3 for creating original artwork, and Nik Color Efex Pro™ 2 IE for selectively applying photo enhancements".

Thanks for the replies guys. Oddly enough I do have the wacom tablet and it comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, Corel Painter Essentials 3.0, nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 and Wacom Brushes 2.0. I'm assuming that Corel Painter would be the best program to use?

Adobe Illustrator? its more meant for drawing than GIMP or normal photoshop..

Nah, I used to be a chacha guide believe it or not so I tend to look things into too much detail ;). That and I was already going to buy one.

Adobe Illustrator? its more meant for drawing than GIMP or normal photoshop..

Illustrators actually more for coloring and vectoring then it is drawing.

Nah, its a job where you search things for people. Lazy people who refuse to use google lol. Go to chacha.com if its still up and running to see what I mean.
