This game appears to be extremely difficult to get the full 200 for, but in the quest for getting the most out of a retro game, I figured I'd share some bits of info to help everyone out...this game can get a bit frustrating.
1. Ruthless
Destroy 10 Saucers without letting any escape Asteroids - Normal difficulty
Not too difficult...clear the majority of the first board of asteroids, then shoot every saucer that comes on the screen. Saucers that crash do count towards the ten, and some can escape, it's not 10 in a row, or with one life.
2. Precision
Complete wave 1 with 28 shots or less Asteroids - Normal difficulty
Might be the first achv you get...make every bullet count, and keep track of the number of shots taken. Let the Saucers shoot asteroids, and if you get near 28 and have lives to spare, use them to crash into some.
3. Maniac
Earn a bonus life Asteroids - Throttle Monkey mode
I don't have it, and Throttle Monkey is crazy...it is confirmed to work as stated, you just have to get the points.
4. Superstar
Have 4 lives in hand Asteroids - Normal difficulty
Pretty straightforward...score 10k with your first life. A good "score boost" is to leave one or two asteroids, and then shoot as many saucers as you can...downside is that they are deadly accurate, and can hit you from off the screen, especially the little ones.
5. Rockstorm
Have 24 Asteroids on screen Asteroids - Normal difficulty
My brother said he got this on Wave 2 but I couldn't manage it until 3 or 4...pretty simply, just shoot all the big asteroids, and leave all the little ones. Once the screen is crowded enough the achv will pop. There is no way to "freeze" the screen and count accurately, so you just have to make a big mess and hope you have 24.
6. Clockstopper
End a game on exactly 99990 points Asteroids - Normal difficulty
Ok....I think the highest score in the world right now is 50k, so I don't know who is supposed to get this one.
7. Fugitive
Survive for 3 minutes on your first life Asteroids DeLuxe - Normal difficulty
The trick here is to NOT clear wave 1 in a timely manner...if a saucer shoots an asteroid, go ahead and shoot the pieces to get rid of them, but leave as many big ones as you can (they are slow and easy to keep track of). Once the killer satellites show up, you can actually fly around a blank board for a good 30 seconds or so with them chasing you before they call it quits and fly off...use this to your advantage because the game CHEATS! You'll get hit by more random pieces and stray bullets at 2:45 than you would ever think possible. Also, holding the trigger in DeLuxe gives you just about as high a rate of fire as mashing A, so I found I did better (esp. in Throttle Monkey) if I used the two triggers (holding the right down) for fire and thrust, and using my thumb for shields (which do not re-charge).
8. Mayhem
Have a Saucer and 6 Killer Satellite sections on screen Asteroids DeLuxe - Normal difficulty
I got this one just by playing...once the Killer Satellite rock/ box whatever shows up, don't shoot it. A Saucer always follows close behind, and ALWAYS shoots it, so all you have to do is shoot the first three once each while the saucer is still on the screen. Also, if you ignore the box, a second will appear, which makes getting six on screen much easier.
9. Lunatic
Earn a bonus life Asteroids DeLuxe - Throttle Monkey mode
One person has it...and it's not me! My best is #8 in the leaderboards right now with 9k. Throttle Monkey limits you to 2 lives, and the extra man comes at 15k rather than 10k, so it's a pretty good challenge. I recommend using the triggers and keeping a finger on the X button to maximize your chances, and expect to die fast and often.
10. Hero
Have 4 lives in hand Asteroids DeLuxe - Normal difficulty
Confirmed (by others) to actually be awarded at 20k, which is 5 lives, rather than at 10k like regular Asteroids. Not overly tricky, especially after playing Throttle Monkey for awhile, but too many dumb mistakes have kept me from making it. I can get 15k-17k pretty consistently with one man, but the little sniper-saucers or Killer Satellites like to catch me close to the goal with no shields remaining.
11. Platinum
Score 250,000 points Asteroids DeLuxe - Normal difficulty
Same as clockstopper...crazy near impossible, if for no other reason than you will have to play one game for hours on end to manage. No one has broken 100k yet, so the achv is safe for now.
12. Pinpoint
Complete wave 3 with 42 shots or less Asteroids DeLuxe - Normal difficulty
The biggest trick to this is remembering to count waves. There is no onscreen label or anything, so you have to remember when wave 3 begins so you can make every shot count. There are a lot of asteroids, but the saucers are much more destructive in DeLuxe, so if you leave them alone and simply duck and weave, they can do most of the work for you. Remember also, that at the end of the Wave the Killer Satellites make their appearance, so you have to allot shots to take care of them. On the run where I got the achv I used 25 shots a few saucers, and one of my lives, then blasted the Satellites and last rock. Oh...and it is 42 shots total, not with one life, so if you die you can still get it, you just don't get to reset your shot count.
I know a lot of people aren't really playing this, especially for achievements, but hope it helps the other retro gamers out...what I wouldn't give for a spinner to make games like this have controls more similar to the original arcade experience! I had the "Arcade Stick", which did have one, but at the time no games needed it, and since the controller was unwieldy junk, and I traded it back in, so if anyone finds some better way to play this, please let us know!
