Well, he hasn't officially been suspended by the league, but he's been forced into a 'leave of absence'.

Whether or not you like the Islanders or Chris Simon, the fact that this is his 8th suspension and it was a CLEAR intent to injure, something has got to be done about things like this.

Here's a link to the article and the video of the incident:

Now, i'm of the opinion that if you're suspended 3 to 5 times over your career, you should be forced to either 1) be suspended for the rest of the season and all of the next season OR 2) you're done and banned.

2 suspensions in one year should be an automatic suspension for the rest of the season. 2 suspensions in the playoffs should result in suspension for the rest of the playoffs and at least half of the next season.

Most players aren't going to run into this, but this would definitely help curb stupid sh*t like this.

i think he should be suspended for life but once he comes back after his 30 games i doubt anyone will want him on their team anymore

I agree. He's been suspended too many times. Unacceptable.

Unfortunately, i'm willing to bet that the Isles WILL take him back because Ted Nolan has a hard on for him. He's like a pet project.

Well.. all past shenanigans aside, I saw the replay of this, and all I could see is him stepping on Rutuu's skate. Not an ankle or the unprotected part of a calf or anything.. just his skate.. then Rutuu goes all Ed Jovanovski and starts coveting his ankle like someone just slit his achillies tendon. I think Rutuu way oversold this incident.

They're both turds. I couldn't care less either way. If no one wants Simon and he never plays again, and I wouldn't have cared if Simon had severly jacked up Rutuu's ankle he never played again. Just another piece of trash cleaned up (one way or another).

You'd like Ruutu if he was on your team though, lol. He's an agitator for sure and can clearly draw penalties in favour for the team he's on. Anywho, Simon's a scab. Never liked him. He's a relic of the old NHL system and needs to go have some drinks with McSorley. Remember him? ;)

I wouldn't. I hate both Riley Cote and Ben Eager, they're worthless to the team. Glad Eager went to Chicago for Jimmy Vandermeer back. I'm all about enforcers and hard-nosed players. But guys like Rutuu, Laraque, Avery.. are just piles of shxt.

Meh, to each their own I suppose, but I wouldn't ever class Ruutu in with Sean Avery. That's just mean.
