The best tip I've got is to move around the pieces at the bottom to try to make a big cascade.

As Steve said, pure luck. There's no way you can know what's going to drop in, so just hope for the best! I've heard this is easier to get on classic mode in the early levels. The other most likely way you'll get it is playing endless mode, but GOD is that boring.

Yeah I have gotten a couple cascade 7's but no cascade 8's. I just played endless mode (about 60-90 levels, I dont remember.) I would always try and just load the board up with the explosive gems and make one explode to cause a mass destruction period.

I tried the whole eliminating from the bottom and that was crap. I tried loading up the power jems and exploding everything and that just eliminated everything but caused a very little actual cascade. I played over 50 levels of endless and repeated the 50 because of erasing my game actually and I was not able to get the luck of a cascade x8 in endless mode. Many 7's but no 8's. I unlocked twilight mode by completing 17 levels of classic mode and I got the cascade x8 with no problem within the first 5 levels. Instead of eliminating pieces and more dropping the pieces drop both ways. One time you move they drop down like the original and the next time you move all the pieces move up. This way the pieces alternate around more. When I finally did achieve my cascade x8 I probably achieved it with a cascade x10 atleast. Twilight mode is pretty fun too. I would recommend working on unlocking Twilight mode and doing the cascade x8 in that mode. Like I said you only have to complete 17 levels of classic mode to unlock it. Most people say it's hard to do and I couldn't get past level 7 but I had my wife try and that darn woman came along and did 18 levels first try. She got my cascade x8 too but it was really easy in Twilight mode like I said.

Ditto - my wife is way better at it than me. I've read male brains are better at 3D spacial awareness - the area that deals with it is bigger in male brains.

I wonder if pattern recognition is better in women?

a cascade is when you remove a row of 3 gem things, and then more fall and there is a chain reaction... so a cascade x8 is when there is an 8x combo...

I agree that luck plays a big factor. I got mine as my second achievement after I finished puzzle mode.

I find that avoiding power gems and hypercubes and going mainly for horizontal triples (especially moves which eliminate two lines of different colours at once) allows me to predict and control the way the gems fall a little easier. I often get accidental large cascades that way and my highest cascade is x11. Yes, a lot of it is luck, but if you can see the patterns while playing you can maximise your chances. I got by luck just playing in classic mode. I still don't understand how i got it i would say just play the game and you will probably get it eventually.

i blew up 7 power gems could of been 8 if i could move 1 down 1 and i still didnt get it and i was sure i would didnt even get anther combo after blowing them all up and i blow up the whole bottom left corner :(

I've blown up entire rows and I still can't get it. Oh well working on cognito mode now anyway. That'll be the next project with this game.

This probably wont help much, but someone might benefit from it. I have done almost 70 levels of endless, beat action mode, classic, cognito, puzzle, and twilight modes. and until about 2 days ago i still didn't have the cascade 8 achievement. then i finally got it in hyper mode. so if anybody is in a similar situation, go for hyper mode!(and its fun!)

If you are good enough to beat action mode and classic or endless, then you can easily get it in hyper mode.(The reason you have to beat classic or endless is the Be***led menu can't move diagonally witch is BS) My record cascade is x14 with a point value of 150,000

I think it might be easier if you start off with a hyper cube move since that eliminates one color from the board. You'd think this would make it more likely that the remaining colors would be lined up for more combos that way.

I still don't have it, though. A bunch of 7x combos from endless mode, but no 8x yet.

EDIT: Got an 8x cascade on 2 Jan, 2007. It was pure luck. I don't even think it was from a move at the bottom of the screen.

I don't think having lots of power gems going of counts as individual cacades either - i'm sure I've had at least 6 gems go off plus other cascades after that, but still cannot get past my x8 score....

Wanna know what really sucks? I was playing on my wives card when I got MY cascade x8. I exited out to look at my score to see I was on the WRONG DAMN CARD. So what is the luck of actually doing it twice?

I played this on PC, and like the other guys said, play endless mode and keep moving pieces around towards the bottom and with a little bit of luck you'll get it.

Yeah, you guys are right, it is WAY easier to get this achievement in Hyper as you pretty much get an 8x Cascade or higher every game. My best is now x11, thanks to Hyper Mode, but I originally got an 8x Cascade in Classic Mode.

I'll pitch in with another confirmation that hypermode is the way to go on this one. I was getting kind of worried about the cascade achievement as I kept playing endless hoping for it to happen. Anyway, like people are saying you'll get 8+ cascades almost every game in hyper, and it gave me a 13 cascade after just a few games.

i got mine today on level 32 in endless...my friends mom got it on level 1 in classic the first day she got her 360 i was like **** that!....its all luck

I've managed to get x9 combo on Endless Mode - haven't got the "easier" modes unlocked yet! An yes...it is total luck to get anythting past x6 combo. I was lucky that there were a few power gem explosions (2 or 3) in the x9 combo. Unfortunately chaining explosions via Power Gems doesn't count....
