View Full Version : This game is horrible - what a dissapointment

Well I rented it and I fought myself to get through as many achievements I could over the weekend before I returned it. In the end, I gave up after getting the Scenario and Special Award achievements.

The game is just down right terrible. Here are some reasons why:

- The airplanes maneuver like lawn-mowers - no matter the type of plane. Even the F22A feels sluggish
- Enemies seem to have warping ability - they appear on your radar out of nowhere within 5 miles and then shoot missiles at you. You have no warning they are coming to evade them, go around them, etc. They just "appear" magically
- Enemy missiles can be a ***** to avoid. No matter how many chaffs/flares you use and all kinds of juking you do, they always seem to hit. The crappy handling of the planes doesn't help avoid missiles either.
- The briefing and menu presentation graphics are worse than Top Gun on the Nintendo NES. Pathetic in a 2006 "HD" game to have such crappy presentation.
- The in game graphics are decent but inconsistent, sometimes they look good and sometimes they are just horrific.
- Most of your wingmen are incompetent except (in my experience) the Russian guy who actually can shoot other guys down
- Although it makes the game easier - the fact that your weapons "charge" makes this WAY TOO ARCADEY!! Since when can you fire 6 missiles and then 60 seconds later have them magically reappear??? This takes a LOT away from the realism of the game.
- Plane handling, control and the fact that you'll always have missiles means you'll hardly ever dogfight with guns. You will always end up sitting back and launching missiles to your hearts content - again, not realistic.

All in all, this was a huge dissapointment and it was a painful experience to get through the Scenarios as it was. Some of them are down right retarded.

Best of luck to those who are playing and god bless those who like this piece of gaming turd. Hopefully we'll get a decent flight sim sometime.

You're not too bright, are you?

You're playing this on easy. On the harder difficulty, your weapons don't respawn. In addition, the planes control very realistically when you have the proper control settings set up. Turn off that arcade **** and you'll be doing fine. Just a note. realistic handling is not Ace Combat and Afterburner.

And one of the stronger sim aspecs is how hard missile dodging is. It's not like those things miss very often in real life.

And yeah, enemies spawn. This is still a video game you know. That's generally what enemies in most video games tend to do.

dude can u say el retardo, this game is as realilistc as they come thats why its so hard duh, and for the enemies comeing out of no where well a thats what the afterburners do, when your going mach 1, mach 2 and roll up on someone ya your gona look like you came out of no where buddy. and a ya its gona be hard to evade a missile thats why its a missile its sapose to shoot u, your not sapose to get away unless u try, and oviously u dont no how to do it. and by saying that the mission breifings sucked, well its just a breifing telling u what to do its not sapose to be top notch graphics, and all top gun had on the nes was a little page with writing on it no nothing else. so you ether played this game with your head stuck up your a** or u thought it was like ace combat.

I'll agree with the handling. I found it easier to fly a REAL F-16 and a REAL F-18 than the ones in the game.

Realistic or arcadey, I know this game can get very frustrating for me. I wont call it garbage or anything because I know a lot of people are enjoying it. Maybe flight combat games aren't for me (I didn't like Blazing Angels either).

This game is pretty rubbish as evidenced by it's horrific rating on gamerankings. I agree with all of the criticisms mentioned above, especially about the handling. If a plane gets by you say good night as your plane takes about one hour to turn 180 degrees. It's utterly ridiculous how slow they turn.

I got 175/1000 points in about 2 hours or so and after losing a three-part mission due to an unavoidable missile after shooting down about eleven planes I couldn't be bothered suffering through the horrible controls and campaign of this game. Unless you really love achievement points there is no point putting yourself through the torture of this game.

I don't care who's lying about actually "enjoying" this sad excuse for a video game. This pathetic piece of "entertainment" is the worst game I've ever played in my life. Even though I'm a huge achievement *****, I'm really surprised I put myself through the emotional torture and damage to try to get half the total points available in this game, and that's before I found out that it's impossible to get 1000/1000, because one of the 30pt achievements is glitched. That's complete bull****.

So yeah. *end rant/venting*.

Actually I enjoy this game very much. Sometimes frustrating but Ridge Racer is frustrating too. The graphics are actually not as bad once you take a good look at the details. Well I suppose everybody has to make his own experience and please do not state that this game is ****. Just state that in your oppinion the game is not as good as it should be.

Been there, done that. Still think the handling is a bit off. I still had fun playing it though.

It's def. not a terrible game. The reason most of you trash this game is because you shoot it off before you even try the settings and different planes or whatever. This game is great, maybe the handling is a bit off but your little incompetent flamings and dissapointments wont do anyone good except anger the people who know more than you do and actually enjoy something you so pathetically shoved off as "trash." Look to your own favorite game which may be "prey" for all i know, and started trashing it, you think it would resolve anything that my words expressed? No, so if you have something to say, say you didnt enjoy it, leave the punishment of harsh criticism to the people who get paid for it.

[Eric]Just state that in your oppinion the game is not as good as it should be.

Exactly.

Im still playin this game...I think its great. Plus allot of people play it online now.

Ohh about the turning? I can turn on a dime in this game. Your just flying to damn fast! Lower airspeed means quicker and sharper turning. Just dont stall your bird.

At first It was tricky, yet after logging in plenty of flight hours, Im used to it and love it.

I too love this game, it cost me $11 at Kmart and I've probably played it more than Halo 3 which cost me $60.
