Yes i also have Hitachi, and it is loud, but it's fine when the volumn of the game / dvd etc kicks in, i always found my xbox to be rather loud aswell.

Of our 9 systems, 7 are Hitachi and 2 are Samsung. Personally, I've noticed no difference, although one with a Hitachi is occassionally louder. I'm a little concerned about that one, but I may be paranoid. In fact, yes, I am paranoid. Why are you all talking behind my back? WHY??? Are you staring at me? Is there somebody behind me? well i tested it with my two and there isnt much difference
the Hitachi has a deep sound and quiet loud but the Samsung is quieter but has a soft high pitch ring to it

so there isnt mush difference to it
and no point getting a Samsung just coz its a tiny bit quieter

yeah ive bought two different 360s and the most recent one still has the hitachi drive. ah well.... i had to replace the drive in my original xbox too.

Yes, but you have to remember that they gradually change drives - experimenting along the way. It doesn't just happen one day all of sudden - boom! Nah, the newest made 360s (within the last month or so) are the ones with the quiet drives. You see, mines a Samsung, but it is just as loud as me friends Hitachi - thats because I bought my 360 about 2 months after he did.
