Hyper cubes required for those "get out of jail" moments when you're about to have "NO MORE MOVES".
I've got to level 15 now....only a matter of time b4 I get the achievement...

Classic mode is wierd...sometimes ill run out of moves on lvl 2, and sometimes ill make it to lvl 20...Im not sure if its luck or some kind of skill.

I get the same thing. I think it's mostly the luck of the drops along with some skill at recognizing good moves.

I had the same problem with classic mode but after reading a post from someone on the net, I made it on my first try. So here are the tips that made it:
- Always, when possible, make combos as high as possible on the grid, leaving the combos at the bottom intact for when you're out of moves.
- Keep hyper cubes intact as long as possible.
- When you have a choice, go for vertical combos instead of horizontal ones. They tend to have more impact on the grid.
- Use the hints (the ones given freely after 15 seconds) plenty to learn the right way to play classic mode. The AI will rarely give you an advice not worth following. Exception is when it asks you to use a hyper cube. It often happens you still have at least one more possible move. Look carefully before getting rid of a precious hyper cube.
I know it's tempting to make crazy combos in the middle of the grid with power gems and explosions all over the place but more often than not, it's not gonna work in classic mode. Take your time, work the top of the grid and wait for advices when in doubt. You'll surely make it!

I read magiroux post and figured out a few things for myself and it helped me improve in a huge way. I only had time for two rounds (since it takes so damn long, my second one took 70 minutes!) but both took me further than I'd ever been. Previously, my record was level 9 and that time I felt like I was the luckiest man alive. These two times, I reached level 13 and 16 (and I would've beaten it had I not gotten unlucky and lost my last hypercube in a chain-reaction explosion :() this time, so techniques definitely play a part here even if luck is a huge part of it.
Anyway, I'd like to add the following:
Don't think powercubes are useless! They're highly useful. I used to think that powercubes were crap and hypercubes were the only way to go. What I figured out, though, is that you should stick to the top 2 lines as much as possible, and keep making powercubes and let them slide down the board. Once you run out of stuff to do in the top 2 lines and have some powercubes close to the bottom, set them off and get a bunch of new ***els to play with in the top lines. This is highly risky since many powercubes on the grid means your hypercubes will be in severe danger of unforseeable chain reactions, but this IS a game of luck and it's worth the risk.
And it can't be stressed enough: ignore the tips to use hypercubes! Like magiroux stated, the game will try and trick you into wasting your hypercubes more often than not.
Edit: I can now confirm that these techniques will take you to level 17 and beyond. I just made it to level 20 before I ran out of moves and hypercubes, and that was just my fourth attempt (third attempt stopped at level 3 due to the annoying random engine).
