Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I keep running out of ammo, what gives?

When you reload, you lose all ammo in the gun you drop. It's a less-than-perfect system, but make sure you don't reload at all if you want to conserve ammo, just run out of ammo in the clip.

Q: If I restart will I lose all my collectibles and progress? / How does the save system work?

This game works on a two tier save system. There is a separate save for your profile which contains all of your achievement progress. This is generally updated any time progress is made on an achievement.

The second save is essentially your game progress and Last Checkpoint. You really only get 1 save, and it updates automatically as Last Checkpoint. The first time you play through the game, the Chapter checkpoints are created. These are only created once and can't be overwritten. So if you do a side-quest or kill someone in Chapter 1, for example, your Chapter 2 save will have those qualities. So those people will be dead, and those sidequests will be completed. This is why there are 2 methods for the Gunslinger achievement.

Since these saves are kept separate, you can feel free to bounce around any Chapter you like and all of your achievement progress is saved for you. The only stats that do not carry over when you start a new game is your heart's consumed.

Q: I missed the Jungle Outfit, how can I get it?

You have to reload Chapter 1 and play through until you reach that section. This part of the game cannot be reached later on.

Q: I missed a collectible/letter, how can I get it?

With collectibles, you can simply load a Chapter, grab it, and dial the phone number. This will update and save your achievement progress for Completionist. When it comes to letters, you will have to replay the entire Chapter until you're in the real world and can reach a mailbox. Only then will the progress be saved.

Q: How do I move the bell in Chapter 2? I'm stuck!

Make sure your Demon Arm is selected. Press and hold RB while facing the bell and move backwards, you'll pull the bell out of the way.

Q: How do I get into the mansion in Chapter 5?

The enemies constantly respawn, so you can't kill them all. You just need to get close enough to the front door to trigger a cut-scene that loads you inside the mansion. Kill a group of people and just run for it.

Q: How do I beat the boss at the end of Chapter 4?

Put away your guns entirely (switch to your hand) and stand there until he taunts you once or twice. Walk up to him and press A. That's it.

Q: I got a Shiny Trinket... what's it for?

Nothing. The hobo gives it to you in Chapter 5 after you complete his sidequest, it serves no purpose in the game.

Q: Where can I physically find all of the collectible phone numbers? Where are all the secret numbers?

You can find a list of collectible number locations here. The secret numbers are located on walls, posters, and anywhere you can think of within the game. Currently there is no list of locations, just keep your eye open as they're reasonably hard to spot.

Q: If I killed the hobo in the bathroom in Chapter 1, can I still get Heart Of Gold?

Unfortunately, you have to replay the game from Chapter 1 to 5 without killing him at the beginning. There is no way around this.

Q: I can't get enemies to spawn for a sidequest, they aren't there / I can't finish a sidequest because someone won't talk to me!

Sometimes enemies don't seem to spawn for a sidequest, and sometimes NPC's seem to ignore your existence. Also, sometimes quest-givers won't even give you a quest when they should.

The remedy for all of these is first try talking to them over and over, sometimes just pressing A will make it kick in. If that doesn't work and you still aren't being recognized, or enemies aren't appearing where they should, reloading a Chapter will solve the problem. Just make sure you don't mind losing your Last Checkpoint when you do (i.e; Reload the chapter after you complete the game).

Q: How do I know how close I am to Darkness Master?

Press Start and go to Achievements. This list shows you your current progress on all achievements, including Darkness Master.

Q: Can you get multiplayer achievements with system link?

Yes.

Q: Why is the multiplayer so laggy, is there any way to fix it?

Nope, that's just the way it is. An update may or may not take place to try and solve the issue, there's no word of anything currently.
